What does a Director of Compliance and Continuous Improvement do?

The Director of Compliance and Continuous Improvement plays a pivotal role in optimizing operations by monitoring compliance and spearheading strategic initiatives. This position is tasked with executing independent audits, eliminating waste, and enhancing operational efficiency while ensuring accountability for performance and necessary improvements. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy and Finance Officer, the Director will collaborate with senior management and the Legal Advisor to uphold the agency's mission.

Responsibilities include coordinating internal audit activities, conducting research on federal transit administration regulations, and assisting with safety audits. The Director of Compliance and Continuous Improvement will also develop multi-year continuous improvement programs, mentor teams, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

To excel as the Director of Compliance and Continuous Improvement, candidates must possess a comprehensive knowledge of FTA regulations, federal programs, and contractual compliance. Understanding current industry developments and transit operations is crucial, along with the ability to implement effective agency performance improvement strategies. Proficiency in relevant software, including PowerPoint, SharePoint, and various audit tools, is essential for successful project coordination and reporting.

Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, effectively gathering and synthesizing data for evaluation. Clear communication abilities, both verbal and written, are vital for presenting findings and collaborating with internal stakeholders at all levels.

Attention to detail and the capacity to follow through on issues are critical, as is the ability to work independently while fostering teamwork. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to build effective relationships across business units and government agencies will further enhance success in this role. Bilingual candidates, particularly in Spanish, will be an added advantage.
