SENIOR BUSINESS ANALYST, BUSINESS ANALYTICS - Advancement Information Services

The Senior Business Analyst position in AIS is responsible for collaborating with various departments and stakeholders to gather, document, and analyze business requirements, processes, and workflows. They will work closely with project managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure business data and reporting needs are met and projects are delivered successfully. The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for independently documenting user requirements and turning them into specifications that can be effectively implemented by AIS programmers.

They will also be responsible for identifying areas for process improvement, researching and recommending solutions to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, providing data analysis and data visualization, and disseminating results in meaningful ways to multiple audiences through summary reports, dashboards, and interactive online data visualizations built in Advancement’s Quest CRM (an Affiniquest CRM built in Salesforce) or integrated solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Requirement analysis and stakeholder communications: collaborating with business stakeholders to understand their needs, objectives, and challenges.
  • Independently eliciting, documenting, and analyzing business requirements, complex processes, and workflows.
  • Translating business requirements into clear and concise functional specifications for technical teams.
  • Serving as a liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams.
  • Communicating complex technical findings, recommendations, and project updates to various audiences, both technical and non‑technical.
  • Providing guidance, mentoring, and support to lower‑level analysts.
  • Collaborating with technology teams to develop strategies and design solutions that meet business needs.
  • Proposing practical and innovative solutions to address business challenges.
  • Ensuring that proposed solutions align with the organization’s strategic goals and technological capabilities.
  • Collaborating with project managers to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Ensuring that data visualizations highlight the datasets required by stakeholders.
  • Coordinating project planning, estimation, and resource allocation.
  • Monitoring project progress and identifying potential risks or deviations from the plan.
  • Identifying areas for process optimization and efficiency enhancement.
  • Recommending process improvements and assisting in their implementation.
  • Participating in system testing, user acceptance testing, and validation testing of implemented solutions.
DOCUMENTATION
  • Creating detailed documentation including business requirements, process flows, use cases, and user stories, and writing comprehensive reports as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Certifications or experience in data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Apsona, or other Salesforce data visualization software integrations.
  • Five or more years of experience as a Business Analyst or similar role supporting technology solutions.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES
  • Proficiency in requirement‑gathering techniques, process modeling, and documentation.
  • Experience translating business needs into formal requirements.
  • Ability to multitask between diverse user groups.
  • Superior analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent data analysis, visualization, and reporting skills.
  • Experience establishing, documenting, maintaining procedures and processes, and creating functional and technical documentation.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, including the ability to manage multiple demands and projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with project‑management methodologies and software‑development life cycle.
  • Superior presentation and negotiation skills.
