The Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking a confident, experienced, and mission-driven Juvenile Justice Specialist 6 to serve as the principal assistant to the Corrections Lieutenant Colonel at Swanson Center for Youth. This leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in secure‑care environments, communicates with authority, and is committed to maintaining safety, structure, and high‑quality programming for youth.
As a JJS‑6, you’ll oversee security operations, conduct facility inspections, support quality assurance efforts, and manage youth and staff activities within housing units. You’ll serve as both the training officer and safety officer, ensuring staff readiness, policy compliance, and a safe environment for youth and employees. You’ll also respond to emergencies, supervise searches, manage documentation, and provide direct leadership to subordinate staff.
In the absence of the Corrections Lieutenant Colonel, you’ll assume full operational command.

Qualifications- High school diploma or GED or one year of experience in any field plus:
- Three years of experience in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting with responsibility for one or more of the following: rehabilitation of delinquent youth, clinical care, custody, or security;
- Three years of experience in Probation and Parole.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
- An applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse, engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
- Valid Louisiana Driver’s License.
- Pass a background check.
- Pass a drug screening test.
- Authorize the HR Office of Juvenile Justice to contact prior employers under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
- Must be able to take and pass a drug screening test, possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License and clear a background check.
- Must be willing to undergo background checks and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be ready to pass a drug screening test, possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License, and clear a background check.
- Must authorize the HR Office of Juvenile Justice to contact prior employers under the PREA.
- Must participate in the E‑Verify system for verification of citizenship and employment authorization.
- No civil service test score is required.
- Oversees security and operations — supervises staff, conducts unannounced inspections, ensures safety and security standards are met, and reports operational issues promptly.
- Manages programs and quality assurance — participates in audits, assists with SOP development, oversees youth and staff schedules, documentation, activities, and LaMOD therapeutic requirements.
- Leads training and safety initiatives — serves as training and safety officer, develops safety policies, tracks hazards, reviews reports, and conducts Code of Conduct hearings.
- Ensures compliance and emergency readiness — responds to emergencies, oversees searches, conducts perimeter checks, and ensures proper record storage and retention.
- Provides personnel leadership — completes performance evaluations, identifies training needs, counsels staff, reviews disciplinary actions, and ensures timely time‑and‑attendance submission.
- Supports administrative leadership — acts as principal assistant to the Corrections Lieutenant Colonel and assumes command responsibilities in their absence.
- Performs additional duties — maintains 24‑hour on‑call availability and completes other assigned tasks to support facility operations.
