Live Arts Miami (LAM) is seeking an Engagement Coordinator for its upcoming Haint Blu project centered in Miami’s Brownsville community and led by the acclaimed dance collective Urban Bush Women (UBW). LAM has a long-standing history of community-engaged arts programming as a means of change making, and it intends to amplify the impact of its mission and the same of its partners through reciprocal relationships.
Scopeof Work:
Haint Blu is a new, site-specific work created by acclaimed dance collective Urban Bush Women. Named after the color used by Southern families to paint their front porches to ward off bad spirits, Haint Blu takes audiences on an immersive dance-theater journey throughout the Historic Hampton House exploring the movements, histories, and stories of Brownsville community elders and ancestors. Born out of urgent concern for personal and global wellness, Haint Blu aims to reclaim and implement the liberatory practices communities of color hold to navigate adversity as alternatives to oppressive constructs threatening our coexistence with each other and the planet.
UBW will engage the Brownsville community, researching local stories and shared memories as part of the creative process. A dynamic series of activities and events designed in collaboration with the community and local partners will amplify this collective work.
Important Dates: UBW will be in Miami twice for two-week periods from October 31-November 11, 2022, and February 27 – March 11, 2023. Full availability during these periods is required.
