Position: Associate Registrar (Part-Time)
Location: New Orleans

Description

The National WWII Museum is currently seeking an Associate Registrar. The Associate Registrar, working within The National WWII Museum’s Collections and Exhibits Department and reporting to the Senior Registrar & Director of Collections Management, is responsible for the care and documentation of the National WWII Museum’s collections consisting of (artifacts and archival material). The Associate Registrar’s duties include inventory of incoming collections, storage, maintenance and retrieval of collection items.

This position is responsible for proper housing and safe handling of artifacts, maintaining accuracy in the collections management system, aiding in the creation of deeds of gift, acquisition forms and maintaining the permanent registration records and files.

Requirements
  • Coordinates closely with the Senior Registrar & Director of Collections Management to manage and inventory incoming collections, ensuring accurate and consistent cataloging and artifact processing procedures.
  • Inventories and catalogs new accessions.
  • Inventories and catalogs legacy collections.
  • Ensures timely, accurate and consistent records are created and maintained.
  • Ensures proper housing and re-housing of the collection.
  • Utilizes proper handling and safety of the collection.
  • Prepares Deeds of Gifts.
  • Prepares Acquisition Forms.
  • Maintains Accession Files.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Archival Studies, Museum Studies or similar preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of museum, library or archives experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival procedures, collections records management and artifact handling.
  • Knowledge of preventative conservation techniques and best practice standards.
  • Strong written communication skills as well as strong organizational skills.
  • General knowledge of World War II era history and material culture preferred.
  • Ability to lift, carry and place artifacts on shelves, including overhead, up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 8 feet
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
