Verite News is a nonprofit news organization with a twofold mission of producing in-depth journalism that serves the whole community while training, developing and mentoring a new generation of minority journalists.

Verite produces in-depth, data-driven investigative reporting aimed at finding solutions to chronic problems, engaging in deep-dive analyses of government and private actions that impact the community while generating thoughtful historical and narrative presentations that help enhance the shared sense of community and belonging.

Verite News, as part of our commitment to delivering quality, engaging journalism, is launching a new video team to expand our reach through dynamic, impactful video.

Verite News is seeking a video producer responsible for producing high-quality, engaging vertical videos for Verite News’s social media platforms, as well as supporting future video endeavors. Applicants with prior reporting experience will be strongly considered, as we value storytellers who can seamlessly blend video production that matches our newsroom’s existing journalistic endeavors. This role will require on-camera appearances.

Applicants are encouraged to include a reel of applicable video content — vertical or horizontal.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Plan, shoot, write, edit, and publish Verite News video content across our digital platforms.
- This includes but is not limited to: reporter explainers, producer explainers, promotional cuts for Verite News podcasts, promotional cuts and editing support for Verite News’s ongoing video series.
Communicate and work closely with Verite News editors and reporters.
- Effective communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative setting are required qualities for this role.
Follow editorial direction and established production workflows, brand standards and deadlines.
Appear on camera as needed. Comfort and confidence in front of the camera are essential. Plus, assist and/or coach reporters or other staff members appearing in videos.
Stay current on social-video trends, production techniques and evolving audience habits while maintaining Verite News’s editorial standards.
Monitor audience feedback across platforms and use analytics to inform content strategy.
Develop original video content — general creativity and curiosity about changing media practices are essential!

The following are some of the qualities we’re looking for in our future video team members, but we know not everyone will check every box. Experience with video content creation, video composition and distribution tactics, particularly on social media.
Proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro. Additional experience with After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Cap Cut and Canva is preferred.
Print and/or broadcast news reporting experience. Live broadcast, multi-camera production, live streaming production experience or knowledge is a plus.
Strong news judgment and the ability to identify compelling visual stories, characters and soundbites
Experience operating professional DSLR and mirrorless cameras and working with lighting, composition, frame rates, exposure, color and other cinematography fundamentals.
Experience with various tools used by our team:
Adobe Suite, Cap Cut, Canva, Google Workspace, Google Analytics, Airtable, Slack.
Comfort working in an extremely collaborative environment — you’re able to work well with others across teams and departments.
Demonstrated experience working independently on projects.
