Job Summary /Basic FunctionsUnder the general supervision of the Dental Program Coordinator in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic in New Orleans. The incumbent in this position will provide assistance to a dentist,resident, or dental student as a trainee. The importance of this position is that the incumbent interacts with faculty, residents, students, and patients on both skillful and professional levels providing a necessary service of dental assistance.
To provide chair-side assistance to a licensed oral surgeon,resident, and undergrad students in oral surgery
LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry Oral Surgery Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Dental Assistant 1, 2 or 3.
Duties and responsibilities but not limited to:- Assist oral surgeons and dental students with chair-side treatment of patients.
- Maintain and stock cabinet
- Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques
- Chart patients according toLSUSDsystems (Axium/WinOMS Computer knowledge)
- Give follow-up home instructions as directed by the surgeon, resident, or student
- Implement and maintain infection control in the work area.
- Check inventory and order supplies when needed.
- Implement and follow safety guidelines as set forth byLSUHSCSchool of
Dentistry andOSHA. - Know dental and surgical terminology.
- Know the correct nomenclature of all dental and surgical instruments.
- Knowledgeable of computers.

There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of
- $15.05 per hour for Dental Assistant 2 title
- $14.06 for Dental Assistant 1 title
- Pay based on years of experience for Dental Assistant 3 title
- $1.00 Longevity Pay for hours worked only.
- $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.
- $1.50 for EDDA certification (Expanded Dental Duty Dental Assistant).
