Overview

At Ochsner, whether you work with patients every day or support those who do, you are making a difference and that matters. Come make a difference at Ochsner Health and discover your future today!

Under the direction of the Regional Medical Director, the System Chair serves in a strategic leadership role. The System Chair will collaborate with senior leadership at a system and campus level to lead Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to deliver quality care in a patient focused environment.

The Gastroenterology Service Line will be the latest service line to develop, joining a group of 15+ other specialties in service line function. Gastroenterology and Endoscopy are strategic foci for Ochsner Health and a place of significant patient demand. As a system department, the GI team delivers comprehensive care across Louisiana and Mississippi, with three academic medical centers and a qua ternary referral center in New Orleans.

Further engagement and leadership across two medical schools, internal medicine residency programs, and Gastroenterology fellowship programs are critical to our workforce strategies.

Gastroenterology at Ochsner Health involves physicians employed by Ochsner, academic physicians, and community physicians that work in both Ochsner and partner facilities. Regardless of the location or partnership construct, all are on the same instance of EPIC. As an energetic and innovative leader, the Chair will lead a highly engaged and academically productive group of more than 70 providers across more than 30 sites in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Like all physician leadership positions at Ochsner, the role has an administrative dyad partner.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Achieve excellence in Gastroenterology through commitment to multidisciplinary care, evidence-based practices, process improvement initiatives, quality improvement programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner to lead both clinical and academic growth, developing teams across multiple geographies and engaging with other clinical service lines such as Transplant, Cancer Services, Primary Care, and Precision Medicine to support patient, research, and educational needs.
  • Foster a culture of innovation in health care delivery, expanding research partnerships, leveraging our information technology platform, and enhancing strategies to optimize access and improve cancer screening rates in the communities we serve.
  • Develop and maintain efficient and effective clinical operations, applying a strategic mindset and promoting collaborative work relationships between clinicians at all levels.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure workflow optimization strategies for all endoscopists, quality assurance, standardization of protocols and procedures, and ease of use for patients and providers.
  • In partnership with the administrative dyad, regional leaders, and service line partners, develop, articulate, and execute a strategic plan with a clear vision to elevate the service line across the system, amidst various strategic partnerships.
  • Lead efforts across the system for the use of clinical data to proactively monitor, develop, and evolve best practice guidelines to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote the standardization of clinical processes and interoperability; adopt effective solutions and innovative patient care technologies, aiming to reduce care variations between facilities.
  • Recruit diverse, high-caliber faculty and trainees who will contribute to scientific advances, pursue excellence in medical education, and, ideally, grow our clinical teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple regions to drive excellent patient service and experience, faculty and staff satisfaction, growth and volume management, and optimal financial performance.
  • Ensure strategies and compensation plans that allow for cohesion and understanding across the system, acknowledging differences in practice type, resources, and geography.
  • Empower, motivate, and challenge faculty and staff, while holding them accountable, as a visible and inclusive leader with outstanding interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Display the qualities of a team player…
