The Department of Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine seeks to hire a neuro-hospitalist. The primary assignment will be to the general neurology consulting and teaching service at University Medical Center New Orleans (UMCNO).
Mission & VisionThe mission of the Department of Neurology at Tulane is to teach, to innovate, and to care. Our vision is to lead change in academic neurology from survivorship to thriver-ship, creating a culture of joy. The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Tulane have partnered to create and co‑lead the Center for Clinical Neurosciences, with a combined 31employed faculty.
Hospital OverviewUMCNO is a 446-bed, non‑profit, public, research and academic hospital located in New Orleans, Louisiana, providing tertiary and level I trauma care for the region. The hospital is operated by LCMC Health and is the largest hospital in the system. UMCNO is affiliated with Tulane University School of Medicine and LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, as well as several other healthcare degree‑conferring institutions in the region.
The inpatient neuroscience services at UMCNO currently include a catheter‑ready stroke service (Tulane operated), a neurocritical care service (LSU and Tulane jointly operated), and two general neurology consulting services (Tulane and LSU separately operated).
The Neuro‑hospitalist hired to this position will be the attending on the Tulane‑operated general neurology consulting service for 26 weeks each year (typically one week on service, one week off service). During off‑service weeks, the Neuro‑hospitalist will assist two half‑days with the supervision of the neurology residents’ outpatient clinics (primarily non‑stroke hospital follow‑ups). Otherwise, on the off‑service weeks, the Neuro‑hospitalist will have discretionary time to engage in administrative and scholarly activities.
A team of Tulane neurologists will otherwise cover the 26 weeks when the Neuro‑hospitalist is off service. Responsibilities will include teaching students and residents, quality improvement and practice‑based research, and patient care.
