Position Title:
College Placement Counselor

The Jesuit College Placement Counselors provide comprehensive college counseling to one third of the junior class and one third of the senior class. Job performance includes providing guidance to students on all aspects of the college placement process, including but not limited to exploring colleges for fit, developing college lists, writing college essays, completing applications, applying for financial aid, and making the college decision.

This salaried, exempt faculty position works as a 10-month employee reporting to the Principal and under the direction of the Director of Guidance. The start date for this position is August 1, 2026.

Jesuit High School is a non-profit, Catholic, college-preparatory school for boys in grades 8-12. It is located in Mid-City New Orleans on Carrollton Avenue between Palmyra and Banks Streets. The mission of Jesuit High School as a Catholic, college preparatory school is to develop in its students the competence, conscience, and compassion that will enable them to be men of faith and men for others.

Professional

Responsibilities
  • Communicates with students and their parents in a timely and thorough manner, including scheduling individual meetings with students and parents throughout the year
  • Manages the letter of recommendation process with all stakeholders, including composing letters for each student for admission and scholarships and supporting faculty in composing and submitting materials
  • Supports grade‑level counselors for pre‑freshmen, freshmen, and sophomores with their college counseling process
  • Plans, publicizes, implements, and presents events, workshops, and webinars appropriate for multiple grade levels of students and families about important components of the application
  • Hosts college admissions representatives scheduled during the academic day or for evening programs, including the College Fair and coordinates scheduling for on‑campus college admissions interviews
  • Presents Maia Learning and Canvas platforms for faculty, students, and parents and provides training and support
  • Promotes scholarships and summer programs, including publicizing nomination scholarships and working with a committee to nominate and support students
  • Commits to professional growth by attending conferences and workshops, visiting college and university campuses, and maintaining membership in regional and national organizations
  • Moderates a homeroom and supports student life by assisting with campus ministry, service, athletics, student leadership, clubs, and other student events as assigned or requested
  • Proctors exam testing for academic departments, PSAT testing, and AP testing as needed
Professional Requirements
  • Appreciation and support for Catholic and Jesuit religious ethos
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of experience working in college admissions and/or high school college counseling
  • Familiarity with colleges nationwide: academic programs, admissions policies, campus environment, etc.
  • Self‑directed with the ability to complete work with students and families independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative and team‑oriented spirit with strong interpersonal skills and desire to engage students and other members of the school community
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in Microsoft Office applications and educational software (Canvas or similar platform and either Maia Learning or Naviance)
  • Availability for night or weekend events such as parent‑teacher conferences, Open House, Baccalaureate Mass, commencement exercises, and other functions as determined by the administration
  • Ability to travel to connect with colleges through regional and national programs
  • High standards of personal integrity and character that is consistent with the discipline, norms, and teachings of the Catholic Church
Salary And Benefits

Jesuit offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a benefits package including a 401k with employer contributions as well as employer‑paid life and disability insurance. Offers may be rescinded upon unsuccessful completion of a pre‑employment drug test or background investigation.
