We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Preschool Teacher to join our team and help children build a joyful foundation for lifelong learning.

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering developmentally appropriate curriculum, supporting student growth, maintaining a safe and inclusive classroom environment, and partnering with families to ensure each child's success. The role supports the development of essential academic and social-emotional skills through intentional instruction and play-based learning.

Essential Functions
  • Develops and implements age-appropriate curriculum aligned with early childhood education standards and district goals.
  • Plans and delivers engaging instructional activities that promote cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development.
  • Supports early literacy, numeracy, language, and motor skills through creative, hands-on strategies.
  • Assessment & Differentiation:
    • Conducts regular student observations and assessments to monitor progress and development.
    • Adapts instruction to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
    • Administers developmental screenings as required by the district or early childhood program.
  • Promotes a classroom culture that is safe, inclusive, nurturing, and conducive to exploration and discovery.
  • Establishes and reinforces routines that encourage cooperation, independence, and appropriate behavior.
  • Maintains classroom materials, supplies, and equipment that reflect developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Family & Community Engagement:
    • Communicates regularly with parents and guardians to share progress, goals, and strategies to support each child's learning.
    • Encourages family involvement and builds strong home-school connections.
  • Professional Responsibilities:
    • Maintains accurate and complete records in compliance with district and licensing requirements.
    • Participates in professional development to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
    • Collaborates with colleagues, support staff, and administration to support student success and contribute to school-wide efforts.
    • Supervises students throughout the day, including during meals, recess, and transitions.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or district administration.

Physical and Mental Demands / Work Environment
  • Work is performed in a preschool classroom setting with frequent physical activity including standing, bending, sitting on the floor, and supervising young children indoors and outdoors.
  • Must meet physical and sensory requirements as outlined in the district's summary of essential job duties.
Qualifications Profile
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure:
    Valid Iowa teaching license with an early childhood endorsement, issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE).
  • Experience:

    Prior experience teaching in an early childhood setting is preferred.
