Located just outside Boone and Ames, Iowa, United Community School District serves a close-knit rural community with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning. Our early childhood programs provide a nurturing, play-based environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and growth in our youngest learners. We are seeking a compassionate, qualified Preschool Teacher to join our team and help children build a joyful foundation for lifelong learning.
Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, the Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering developmentally appropriate curriculum, supporting student growth, maintaining a safe and inclusive classroom environment, and partnering with families to ensure each child's success. The role supports the development of essential academic and social-emotional skills through intentional instruction and play-based learning.
Essential Functions- Develops and implements age-appropriate curriculum aligned with early childhood education standards and district goals.
- Plans and delivers engaging instructional activities that promote cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development.
- Supports early literacy, numeracy, language, and motor skills through creative, hands-on strategies.
- Assessment & Differentiation:
- Conducts regular student observations and assessments to monitor progress and development.
- Adapts instruction to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
- Administers developmental screenings as required by the district or early childhood program.
- Promotes a classroom culture that is safe, inclusive, nurturing, and conducive to exploration and discovery.
- Establishes and reinforces routines that encourage cooperation, independence, and appropriate behavior.
- Maintains classroom materials, supplies, and equipment that reflect developmentally appropriate practices.
- Family & Community Engagement:
- Communicates regularly with parents and guardians to share progress, goals, and strategies to support each child's learning.
- Encourages family involvement and builds strong home-school connections.
- Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintains accurate and complete records in compliance with district and licensing requirements.
- Participates in professional development to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
- Collaborates with colleagues, support staff, and administration to support student success and contribute to school-wide efforts.
- Supervises students throughout the day, including during meals, recess, and transitions.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or district administration.

- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited institution. - Licensure:
Valid Iowa teaching license with an early childhood endorsement, issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE). - Experience:
Prior experience teaching in an early childhood setting is preferred.
