Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Institutional Affairs shall be responsible for all matters related to the faculty and for interfacing with the university leadership for all matters involving faculty. The Senior Associate Dean will be a full time faculty member with a record of achievement in teaching and administration in a medical school setting and will continue educational, clinical, or research activities as time permits, understanding that the responsibilities in faculty affairs will require 80-90% effort.
The Senior Associate Dean will also serve as a representative or a surrogate for the Dean internally and externally as needed. The Senior Associate Dean will have supervisory responsibilities for the Assistant Deans of Faculty Affairs as well as the support staff assigned to the office. The Senior Associate Dean will collaborate with all other members of the Dean’s Staff, particularly those with responsibilities in Finance, Clinical Affairs, Academic Affairs, Research, and Community Engagement.
The Senior Associate Dean will work with the Dean on strategic planning and accreditation as needed, and will work toward achieving the school’s strategic goals, particularly those in areas related to the faculty. The Senior Associate Dean will also work closely with the school’s clinical partners on matters related to faculty recruitment, faculty performance, faculty salaries, and on matters related to the faculty compensation plan.
Appointment will be made to the appropriate clinical department with appointment track and rank dependent on the incumbent ’s record of academic achievement.
