** The Department of Language and Literature at the University of New Orleans invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing with an expertise in Fiction (at least one book published or under contract). A secondary expertise in Creative Non-Fiction is also highly desirable. This position is responsible for 12 academic units per semester (4/4). The typical teaching load is 9 units per semester, with the expectation of service, research, and thesis mentoring to fulfill the remaining 3 units.
Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate fiction courses, as well as other courses offered by the Department of Language and Literature, as needed. This position will be heavily involved with the Creative Writing Workshop, the nationally renowned MFA program at UNO, which offers both resident and online MFA programs. The successful candidate should be adept at teaching in both in-person and asynchronous modalities and be strongly committed to mentoring students through thesis projects.
An ability to work with our literary magazine, Bayou, as well as an eagerness to participate in the community and service of the Department of Language and Literature and the Creative Writing Workshop, is also highly desirable.

* MFA or Ph.D. in Creative Writing in hand by date of hire (August 2026)
* Evidence of teaching excellence

*** Single-authored book of Fiction with national press and review coverage
* Publication record in both Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction
* Experience teaching and advising graduate students
* Commitment to fostering supportive literary communities
** Salary Information
** Commensurate with Experience, but the hiring range, depending on qualifications and experience, is approximately $55,000-$63,000. This position is subject to budgetary approval.
