Overview

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law‑abiding citizens. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Training and Development Specialist to lead and support staff development initiatives across the agency. This role is essential to ensuring that employees are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to serve justice‑involved youth effectively and safely.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in instructional design, adult learning principles, and a passion for workforce development in a mission‑driven environment.

Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in planning, developing, delivering, or evaluating training programs or academic instruction; human resources, or administrative services; OR
  • Six years of full‑time experience in any field; OR
  • A bachelor's degree.

Experience Substitution:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full‑time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties
  • Design, develop, and deliver training programs for staff at all levels, including onboarding, compliance, and professional development
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify skill gaps and recommend targeted learning solutions
  • Facilitate in‑person and virtual training sessions using engaging, interactive methods
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and adjust content based on feedback and performance metrics
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with state and agency requirements
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, supervisors, and leadership to align training with operational goals
  • Support certification programs, continuing education, and leadership development initiatives
  • Stay current with best practices in juvenile justice, trauma‑informed care, and instructional technology
Position‑Specific Details

Work Location: This vacancy is located at Acadiana Center for Youth in Bunkie, Louisiana.

Appointment Type: Full‑time, Probational.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Training and Development Specialist 1, 2, or 3.

The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c).
