Position SummaryThe Assistant Director of Early Childhood and Lower School Operations Support partners with Division Directors to oversee the Early Childhood program (Nursery–Pre-K4) and support Lower School operations while upholding the mission and philosophy of St. George’s Episcopal School. The Assistant Director will endeavor at all times to provide leadership in the daily activities of the Early Childhood and Lower School programs.
This person must be organized, have the ability to multitask, maintain confidentiality and problem-solve proactively, professionally and with a positive mindset. This role reports primarily to the Director of Early Childhood and collaborates with the Director of Lower School as needed for events and operational needs. Working closely with the Director of Early Childhood, the Assistant Director provides administrative support, assists program goals, ensures licensing compliance and helps develop and implement policies that sustain a high-quality learning environment.
In support of Lower School operations, the Assistant Director partners with the Director of Lower School to coordinate key division-wide functions such as family communications, events, assemblies, report cards and standardized testing. The Assistant Director also coordinates substitute coverage and supports overall faculty well-being across both divisions. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assistant Director of Early Childhood
Administrative Support:
- Support the Director of Early Childhood with the daily operations of the Early Childhood program
- Provide organizational and operational support to the Director of Early Childhood
- Maintain and update teacher training manuals with the Director of Early Childhood
- Assist with hiring in partnership with the Dean of Faculty and Staff; manage interview schedules with prospective hires and internal staff
- Act as interim Division Director if needed (e.g. daily absences, vacation, long-term leave support)
- Manage internal Early Childhood Google Calendar
- Communicates urgent maintenance requests for Early Childhood facilities and follows up to assure needs are addressed
- Attend after school leadership meetings, parent-teacher conferences, admissions events and division-specific events after hours
Early Childhood Licensing and Compliance:
- Support the management of Child Care Facility Licensing compliance for the state of Louisiana
- Act as the Director Designee for the school’s license when the Director of Early Childhood is not on campus
- Maintain knowledge of licensing regulations and ensure compliance with licensing, accreditation and health/safety, state and city fire standards throughout the school year
- Complete and manage licensing paperwork and compliance tracking (PD, background checks, onboarding) for school-year
- Conduct daily and monthly licensing rounds
- Coordinate licensing renewals and health/safety/fire compliance
- Maintain Edlinks compliance with regular oversight/spot-checks from the Division Director
- Partner with the Director of Auxiliary Programs and the Auxiliary Program Coordinator to ensure camp students and staff meet all licensing requirements, maintaining the compliance records for Dragon Camp and After Care teaching staff in the Early Childhood office and electronic systems
- Assist Boh Center Secretary with coordination and maintenance of logs in accordance with licensing standards: attendance, observations, illnesses, accidents, parent visitors, carpool and medical information.
Teacher Support:
- In conjunction with the Division Director, provide thought partnership to teaching teams to support in-class needs, such as curriculum initiatives, behavior support and interpersonal dynamic needs
- Professional Development Management:
- Track staff training and professional development requirements.
- Map out the schedule for professional development days and division meetings; create and update proposed yearly calendar
