Position SummaryWe seek a colleague with research and teaching interests in epidemiology with an emphasis on Social Epidemiology. Substantive areas of interest could include a range of topics of social determinants of health, such as chronic disease, early life adversity, infectious disease risk, environmental health, global health, addiction, mental health, access to health care, or other related areas.
The candidate will be responsible for advising and mentoring students, post‑doctoral fellows, and junior faculty scholars. Faculty members will receive a competitive salary, dedicated research space, and protected time for scholarship. The position includes start‑up funds for research support and a relocation incentive. The department offers a highly collegial environment with growth potential. The anticipated start date for the position is negotiable with the successful candidate.
Minimum Qualifications- Doctorate in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or a related field.
- Evidence of extramural research funding and publications commensurate with years of professional experience.
- Evidence or strong potential for establishing an independent, extramurally funded research program.
- Demonstrated interest in teaching.
- Commitment to epidemiology and public health.
- Commitment to advancing health equity and impacting public and population health.
- Ability to advise and mentor students, post‑doctoral fellows, and junior faculty scholars.

The School of Public Health (SPH) is located on the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center–New Orleans campus, downtown in the medical district of the metropolitan area. LSUHSC–NO is part of the Louisiana State University System. The Epidemiology and Population Health Program is one of four programs in the SPH and has a national reputation for cancer research, community‑engaged research and practice and for promoting health equity.
The program offers a BS degree, MPH degree (including an MD/MPH track), and a PhD degree and MD/PhD track. The program and school are home to the nationally recognized Louisiana Tumor Registry and the Louisiana STD / HIV Program and are collaborators with the LSU‑LCMC Cancer Center and the Comprehensive Alcohol HIV / AIDS Research Center. Faculty and students are also actively involved with state and local agencies of the Louisiana Health Department.
Strong collaborative relationships exist with other departments in the School of Public Health and across the health science center, including the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry, School of Allied Health, and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. We seek candidates with research interests and experience that complement and strengthen current research programs on our campus.
