Responsibilities
  • Maintains performance standards and pursues goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission and values.
  • Implements and interprets policies and procedures and regulations of the college.
  • Maintains SACSCOC accreditation standards of the college and the accreditation standards of technical program as specified by Board of Regents and Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
  • Schedules course offerings and coordinates teaching assignments.
  • Coordinates preparation and periodic revision of course syllabi.
  • Develops and implements long-range plans, divisional goals and policies.
  • Conducts regular divisional meetings to apprise the faculty of institutional plans, activities, and expectations.
  • Actively recruits, interviews and hires qualified full-time and adjunct faculty and staff.
  • Supervises and maintains positive relations with Divisional faculty members and staff.
  • Orients new faculty and staff.
  • Evaluates teaching faculty and division staff.
  • Encourages professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Encourages and supports implementation of teaching activities that promote learning-centered education.
  • Cooperates with area colleges and universities to promote transfer of Fletcher credits through articulation agreements.
  • Oversees curriculum development and governance process of curriculum development and implementation.
  • Strategizes for college growth through new credit and non-credit program/course development and innovative delivery models for traditional and non-traditional learners.
  • Oversees the continuous evaluation of curriculum and course offerings in response to student and industry needs.
  • Serves on appropriate faculty and administrative committees including but not limited to:
    Governance Council, Academic Affairs Council, Academic Policies and Procedure Committee, Curriculum Committee, and other committees as deemed necessary by the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Academic & Workforce Initiatives.
  • Maintains current knowledge of program rules and regulations, and communicates changes to faculty and staff.
  • Meets schedules and timelines.
  • Coordinates divisional budget requests and coordinates execution of approved budget.
  • Develops reports that summarize the progress, problems, and prospects of the division.
  • Creates a learning environment in which all students are treated equitably and with respect.
  • Participates in professional development activities that enhance effectiveness, particularly with respect to teaching and student learning.
  • Ensures that faculty provide classroom instruction in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, College harassment policies, and/or other legal requirements.
  • Is receptive to requests from colleagues, students, and administrators to serve in a voluntary capacity in such situations as coverage of a colleague's class on an emergency basis, application of expertise in tasks that serve the college, speaking engagements, college or program specific recruitment activities, serving as adviser to a student organization, developing new organizations, assisting in or supporting student activities, assisting at local conferences, or participating in fund-raising activities.
  • Communicates effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors and utilizes appropriate channels of communication within the College community concerning procedures and/or inquiries.
  • Is adaptable to schedule/load adjustments based upon enrollment and accountable for a forty-hour workweek, including instructional responsibilities, planning, meetings, etc.
  • Represents the college in manner, appearance, and behavior that promote a positive image of the college within the community.
  • Ensures that faculty attend and provide meaningful instruction for all class sessions during the semester, are punctual in class attendance, provide instruction for the complete class period, and make appropriate arrangements for necessary absences according to College policies.
  • Ensures that faculty make adequate preparation for the instructional process; incorporate strategies and a variety of evaluation methods to accommodate students with varying learning styles; and to ensure that course content is presented in a professional manner, with adequate opportunity for students to engage in dialogue about course content.
  • Ensures that faculty develop and administer periodic tests, assignments, and informal classroom assessment (formative and summative) to monitor students' performances, to monitor instructional effectiveness, and administer final examinations during the scheduled exam periods.
