TITLE: Classroom Teacher

FLSA: Exempt

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
  • Any additional certifications/qualifications specified by the Louisiana Standards for State Certification of School Personnel Bulletin 746

Reports To: Principal/Assistant Principal/Other Assigned Evaluator

Job Goal

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher is responsible for growth in student learning.

Term: Nine, Ten, Eleven or Twelve Months

Salary: Nine, Ten, Eleven or Twelve Month Teacher Salary Schedule

Performance Responsibilities
  • Instructional Responsibilities
    • Establish learning objectives, immediate and long range, with written minimum, daily, weekly or unit lesson plan available in the classroom.
    • Teach effectively using the board approved Program Structure, Curriculum Guides, and/or policies.
    • Use a variety of techniques to stimulate learning and a variety of curriculum materials.
    • Differentiate assignments to meet individual needs and explain assignments.
    • Limit homework, keeping it meaningful to what is being taught.
    • Evaluate pupil learning frequently with the view to improvement of teaching and learning; give teacher‑made tests during each grading period.
    • Provide instruction that addresses individual differences using effective grouping, procedures, or individualized instruction.
    • Maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.
    • Show respect for child growth, development, and individuality.
    • Demonstrate substantial knowledge of subject matter and curriculum objectives.
    • Maintain classroom control, promote self‑discipline, character and respect using positive control techniques per state law and school rules.
    • Follow orderly procedures for classroom control: roll check, material handling, sharpening pencils, etc., and use this time for learning activities.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    • Follow school and Rapides Parish School Board rules and regulations.
    • Follow time and duty schedules authorized by the principal.
    • Non‑duty personnel must report 10 minutes before school starts and stay 10 minutes after closing.
    • Sign in and out on appropriate forms.
    • Be present when class begins and not leave the class unsupervised.
    • Remain at school unless permission is obtained from the principal.
    • Attend administrative/professional meetings called by the principal.
    • Notify principal with sufficient time for substitute if absent or with prior return plans.
    • Follow guidelines set by the Rapides Parish School Board staff.
    • Maintain a clean classroom and be responsible for all classroom materials and equipment.
    • Complete records and reports promptly and accurately.
    • Plan and conduct field trips: obtain principal permission, secure parent consent, ensure educational value, prepare pupils, insure vehicles, chaperones, and ensure no child is left unattended.
  • Professional Responsibilities
    • Show enthusiasm, confidence and a positive attitude toward growth for all pupils.
    • Maintain good public relations and provide positive information to parents.
    • Conduct ethical contacts with parents, professionals, and students.
    • Participate in professional development; stay current with courses, workshops, conferences, literature.
    • Loyalty to the school system and school.
    • Establish growth and self‑evaluation plan per Personnel Evaluation Plan.
    • Carry out performance expectations and indicators per the NIET rubric (Instructional Domain, Planning Domain, Environment Domain).
  • Personal Responsibilities
    • Observe conduct standards inside and outside school; demonstrate integrity and dependability.
    • Dress appropriately and be well groomed per dress code.
    • Use language void of profanity.
    • Maintain self‑control and poise.
    • Maintain good general health and physical fitness for teaching duties.
