Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor Responsibilities
Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission, vision and value statement of the College.
Adhere to the designated schedule of classes and office hours. Begin class on time, meet the required contact hours, and submit, post, and keep regular required office hours.
Be available to students via phone or email to assist with assignment questions or needs within 24 hours on workdays and 48 hours on weekends, in accordance with division procedures.
Foster, demonstrate, and actively participate in a culture of mutual respect for students, guests, and co‑workers from all backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. Communicate effectively within the college community concerning procedures and inquiries.
Develop, distribute, and post semester or session course syllabi to the Course Management System before the start of the course, ensuring they adhere to approved master syllabi and include detailed requirements, attendance policy, assessment strategies, grading system, classroom policies, and other relevant information.
Devote adequate time to class preparation, using a variety of teaching and evaluation methods to accommodate students with varying learning styles and to encourage dialogue about course content while covering the approved curriculum.
Monitor enrollment of students in classes, directing those who are not officially enrolled to the appropriate office and restricting attendance to officially enrolled students.
Attend and provide meaningful instruction for all class sessions during semesters or sessions, be punctual, adhere to absence policies, and adapt to schedule or load adjustments based on enrollment and workload.
Develop and update a mechanism for collecting data in the assessment of course learning objectives and program student learning outcomes or general education competencies, and engage in classroom research and assessment of student learning experiences for continuous improvement.
Maximize the use of advanced technology in the classroom or available learning centers as appropriate.
Develop and administer periodic tests, assignments, and informal classroom assessments to monitor students' performance and instructional effectiveness; administer final examinations during scheduled exam periods.
Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and evaluation instruments in an acceptable grade‑book format and file grade books with the department head or appropriate supervisor at the end of each semester or session, retaining the instruments no fewer than three years.
Verify eligibility for courses and communicate with Enrollment Services as needed.
Serve as a resource for students regarding job opportunities, certifications, licensure, and articulated programs, maintaining job placement records and assisting students in pursuing employment or advanced educational opportunities.
Maintain contact with business and industry representatives, log all calls with them, and follow up on potential hiring or supplemental training opportunities.
Tutor students in laboratory settings, tutoring centers, or virtually, coordinating office hours with the Tutoring Center Coordinator according to student needs and faculty schedule.
Advise and mentor students, participate in recruitment, registration, and retention activities, refer students at risk of failure to advising or counseling, and monitor academic progress to aid success and inform program coordinators.
Participate in Program Advisory Committee meetings.
Attend and participate in scheduled activities including graduation, open houses, recruiting events, tutoring, seminars, college convocation, and required meetings, sharing ideas and working toward common departmental and college goals.
Serve on college committees as a member or chair, and serve on search committees when selected.
Participate in professional development activities (e.g., convocation, LCTC conference) that enhance teaching effectiveness, student learning, advising, or policy implementation.
