Position Title and Salary
SU | Assistant Professor-Elementary Education/Literacy (Full-Time Unclassified, Tenure‑Track). Salary: $65,000.
Job Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary education, literacy instruction, reading foundations, reading assessment, and related areas.
- Design and deliver engaging, research‑based instruction that aligns with Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and university standards.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate teacher candidates during clinical practice, residency, and field experiences.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, supporting their academic success, professional development, and program completion.
- Incorporate evidence‑based, culturally responsive instructional practices that address the diverse learning needs of students.
- Establish and maintain an active research agenda in literacy, teacher preparation, elementary education, or a related field.
- Pursue external funding opportunities to support research, program innovation, community literacy initiatives, and educator preparation.
- Disseminate scholarly work through presentations at professional conferences and publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Collaborate with faculty, schools, and community partners on interdisciplinary initiatives that strengthen educator preparation and improve literacy outcomes.
- Participate in departmental, School of Education, university, and professional service activities, including committee assignments and governance.
- Contribute to accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts, including CAEP, LDOE, and SACSCOC program review processes.
- Assist with recruitment, retention, and outreach initiatives to attract and support teacher candidates in elementary and literacy education programs.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with local school districts, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance educator preparation and literacy initiatives.
- Support special projects, grant‑funded initiatives, curriculum development, and other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or School Director.
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Elementary Education, Reading/Literacy Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered if the doctoral degree will be completed by the time of appointment.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful P‑12 teaching experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in literacy instruction, reading foundations, early childhood education, and/or elementary education.
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Elementary Education, Reading/Literacy Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field.
- Experience in teacher preparation, clinical supervision, or residency coordination.
- Record of, or demonstrated potential for, scholarly productivity, including presentations, publications, and the pursuit of external funding.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful P‑12 teaching experience preferred.
- Familiarity with CAEP, LDOE, and other accreditation and state certification standards.
- Experience implementing culturally responsive, evidence‑based literacy instruction.
- Ability to effectively integrate instructional technology and digital learning tools into literacy and teacher preparation coursework.
- Possession of a valid Level 1 or higher Professional Teaching Certificate.
