Title: Classroom Teacher:
Regular Education

Reports To: Principal

Job Goal: To plan and implement a program that creates an environment where students can learn and develop optimally.

Performance Responsibilities:

Domain I – Planning and Preparation (Setting Instructional Outcomes)
  • Establish instructional outcomes by identifying exactly what students will be expected to learn, including rigor and expectations.
  • Write instructional outcomes in the form of student learning targets.
  • Determine instructional activities and the resources needed to complete them.
  • Select instructional activities suitable for diverse learners.
  • Plan for appropriate assessment methods to determine a level of student attainment.
  • Differentiates for students of varied abilities.
  • Create measurable outcomes central to the discipline and related to those in other disciplines.
Domain II – Managing Classroom Procedures
  • Establish and monitor routines and procedures for the smooth operation of the classroom and the efficient use of time.
  • Use and manage instructional groups effectively.
  • Complete non‑instructional tasks efficiently (e.g., lunch count, roll, administrative forms).
  • Transition between activities and manage materials to maintain momentum and maximize instructional time.
  • Teach students to employ efficient routines.
Domain III – Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques
  • Use questioning and discussion techniques to deepen student understanding.
  • Use divergent and convergent questions that facilitate forming hypotheses, making connections, and challenging previously held views.
  • Value student responses by responding to them and using their ideas as a foundation for discussion.
  • Use high‑quality questions to encourage students to make connections among concepts or events previously perceived as unrelated, and arrive at new understandings of complex material.
  • Pose questions for which they do not know the answer, eliciting student responses, opening lines of communication, and promoting thinking.
  • Engage all students in important issues and use their own language to deepen and extend their understanding.
  • Allow students to formulate questions used in class discussions.
  • Teach students how to formulate high‑level questions.
  • Promote learning through discussion.
  • Use a range of techniques to ensure all students contribute to the discussion, enlisting student assistance to secure the outcome.
Domain III – Engaging Students in Learning
  • Actively involve students in important and challenging content aligned with lesson objectives.
  • Develop student understanding through engagement activities.
  • Provide choice of work and assist students in making important contributions to the intellectual life of the class.
  • Create activities and assignments that promote learning and are aligned to the goals of the lesson.
  • Design activities that require student thinking that emphasizes depth over breadth, allowing for choice.
  • Group students of similar background and skill.
  • Use instructional materials that are developmentally appropriate to the students’ experience and the course content.
  • Allow time for reflection and closure in all lessons.
  • Facilitate instruction with students taking a major role in their learning.
