position summarythe elementary music teacher at south plaquemines elementary school is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive music program that includes general music instruction for students in kindergarten through 4th grade and beginning band instruction for students in 5th and 6th grades. The teacher fosters students’ musical growth through singing, movement, listening, performance, creativity, and music literacy while building foundational instrumental skills for beginning band students.
The teacher demonstrates knowledge of developmentally appropriate elementary music practices, including the use of orff instruments and active music‑making strategies, and understands the pedagogy of beginning band instruction regarding instrument setup, tone production, embouchure, posture, hand position, rhythmic development, and foundational ensemble skills.
- plan and deliver standards‑aligned music instruction for students in kindergarten through 4th grade.
- teach age‑appropriate musical concepts and skills, including singing, rhythm, melody, movement, listening, performance, improvisation, creativity, and music literacy.
- use developmentally appropriate instructional strategies that actively engage students in music‑making.
- incorporate classroom instruments, including orff instruments and other elementary music materials, to support hands‑on music learning.
- develop and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, engaging, inclusive, and conducive to musical growth.
- assess student progress regularly through formal and informal measures and use results to guide instruction.
- provide appropriate accommodations and modifications for students in accordance with ieps, 504 plans, and other instructional supports.
- teach beginning band to 5th and 6th‑grade students using sound pedagogical practices for elementary instrumental instruction.
- support students in developing strong musical fundamentals, including instrument care and assembly, posture, hand position, embouchure, breathing, tone production, articulation, note‑reading, rhythmic accuracy, and beginning ensemble skills.
- assist with instrument selection, student placement, and the identification of individual instructional needs.
- provide large‑group, sectional, small‑group, and individual support as needed to strengthen student success in beginning band.
- prepare students for performances and demonstrations that reflect appropriate musical growth and ensemble development.
- coordinate elementary music performances, beginning band concerts, and other school‑based music presentations as assigned.
