the elementary music teacher at south plaquemines elementary school is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive music program that includes general music instruction for students in kindergarten through 4th grade and beginning band instruction for students in 5th and 6th grades. The teacher fosters students’ musical growth through singing, movement, listening, performance, creativity, and music literacy while building foundational instrumental skills for beginning band students.

The teacher demonstrates knowledge of developmentally appropriate elementary music practices, including the use of orff instruments and active music‑making strategies, and understands the pedagogy of beginning band instruction regarding instrument setup, tone production, embouchure, posture, hand position, rhythmic development, and foundational ensemble skills.

• plan and deliver standards‑aligned music instruction for students in kindergarten through 4th grade.
• teach age‑appropriate musical concepts and skills, including singing, rhythm, melody, movement, listening, performance, improvisation, creativity, and music literacy.

• support students in developing strong musical fundamentals, including instrument care and assembly, posture, hand position, embouchure, breathing, tone production, articulation, note‑reading, rhythmic accuracy, and beginning ensemble skills.
