Nunez Community College is seeking a highly qualified and safety-conscious Welding Instructor for a full-time, 9-month unclassified, faculty position located at the Plaquemines Parish Site in Belle Chasse, LA
. The instructor will prepare, support, and deliver comprehensive welding instruction and hands‑on lab training for a diverse student population, including high school Dual Enrollment students and traditional adult learners. The successful candidate will foster workforce readiness, maintain an environment of strict shop safety, and contribute actively to program assessment and student mentoring starting in August 2026.
- Prepare, update, and deliver high-quality curricula for both face-to-face shop classes and online learning platforms.
- Maintain an effective, inclusive, and positive classroom and lab environment conducive to student learning and development which includes constant one-on-one training that is equally divided between students.
- Shop Safety and Environmental Control.
- Enforce absolute compliance with industrial and welding-specific safety protocols.
- Maintain constant situational awareness across the welding shop to guarantee student safety while balancing individual, hands‑on instructional coaching.
- Safely manage physical requirements of the shop environment, including standing/walking for 3‑hour class blocks and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Assess individual student performance and submit all academic grades accurately and on time according to college deadlines.
- Prepare students rigorously for industry certification testing and report all formal student certification results directly to the Program Chair of Welding and the Director of Institutional Effectiveness.
- Participate actively in ongoing program, departmental, and college-wide learning outcome assessments to drive continuous improvement.
- Utilize required institutional technology platforms daily to check college email, create basic documents, upload course materials, and manage digital student records.
- Foster student workplace readiness and professionalism through targeted, individual coaching and technical mentoring activities.
- Advise students on academic pathways, trade expectations, and career opportunities within the welding industry.
- Three (3) years of industry experience.
Must be signed by an AWS CWI:
- At least one (1) form of a comprehensive safety training (OSHA-30 or similar).
- SMAW Plate 3G or 4G.
- SMAW Plate 3G or 4G w/o backing (or SMAW Pipe 2G or better).
- GMAW or FCAW Plate, 3G or 4G.
- Technical Diploma in Welding (with a combination focus) from a regionally accredited institution may substitute for two years of the required industry experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge and mastery of multi-process welding techniques, specifically SMAW (Plate/Pipe, 3G/4G/6G/6GR), GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes.
- Expert knowledge of welding AND industrial safety standards, equipment hazards, and workshop protocols equivalent to OSHA metrics.
- Ability to maintain constant, hands‑on instructional delivery that is equally and effectively divided among a diverse student population in a lab environment.
- Ability to maintain constant environmental awareness across an active shop to guarantee student safety while balancing individual instruction.
- Ability to organize, prepare, update, and effectively communicate content-area technical curriculum in both face-to‑face and online environments.
- Ability to measure student technical performance accurately, prepare students for AWS testing, and report certifications earned to institutional stakeholders.
