Job Description Summary / Objective

The Senior Coordinator of Scholarships serves as the University’s central administrator for institutional scholarship coordination and supports the strategic priorities of the Title III Program by strengthening student access, affordability, persistence, retention, and degree completion. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Coordinator provides leadership for the planning, administration, assessment, and continuous improvement of the University’s scholarship portfolio while promoting equitable access to institutional, donor-funded, foundation, grant‑funded, and external scholarship opportunities.

The Senior Coordinator collaborates extensively with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, Finance & Administration, Institutional Advancement, the SUNO Foundation, and the Office of Research & Strategic Initiatives to enhance scholarship resources, improve student success outcomes, and advance the University’s enrollment and retention goals. The position also develops policies, procedures, and operational processes that improve scholarship administration, compliance, transparency and accountability across the institution.

In addition to scholarship administration, the Senior Coordinator manages the University’s Facility Rental Program by coordinating facility reservations, preparing contractual agreements, maintaining relationships with internal and external clients, and ensuring compliance with University policies governing the use of campus facilities.

Grant‑Funded Position Statement

This position is funded 100% through the federal Title III‑B Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Program. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funding and the successful achievement of program objectives established under the Title III activity.

The Coordinator of Scholarships assists the Vice Chancellor and University leadership with implementing the goals, objectives, and strategic priorities established within the Title III Program. The position supports institutional efforts to strengthen student access, affordability, retention and success by coordinating scholarship initiatives, identifying funding opportunities, and advancing centralized scholarship operations across the University.

Through collaboration with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Finance & Administration, Institutional Advancement, the SUNO Foundation, and the Office of Research & Strategic Initiatives, the Coordinator of Scholarships contributes to the University’s broader Title III mission of enhancing institutional capacity, improving student outcomes, and supporting long‑term institutional sustainability.

Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership for the University’s centralized scholarship administration program, ensuring transparency, consistency, equity, and accountability throughout all scholarship processes.
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve policies, procedures and operational standards governing institutional scholarship administration.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive scholarship management database that tracks scholarship opportunities, eligibility requirements, donor restrictions, award recipients, funding availability and assessment metrics.
  • Research, identify and promote external scholarship opportunities available through governmental agencies, private foundations, corporations, nonprofit organizations and professional associations.
  • Coordinate scholarship application, review, selection, award, renewal and notification processes in collaboration with colleges, departments and scholarship committees.
  • Partner with Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Student Affairs to increase student awareness, participation and access to scholarship opportunities.
