Cosmetology Instructor

Blue Cliff College is seeking a Cosmetology Instructor.

The candidate will perform routine duties to teach cosmetology, nail technology, and esthetics to students using lectures, demonstrations, and audiovisual aids.

• Perform performance-based objectives and outline courses following curriculum guidelines and state and federal initiatives.
• Organize practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of required skills, and deliver lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology.
• Instruct students on proper use, maintenance, and safe operation of tools and equipment and on related codes or regulations.
• Emphasize accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits to prepare students for employability.
• Assign lessons, correct homework, administer tests, and evaluate student achievement in technical knowledge and practical skills.
• Maintain records of daily attendance and student progress; report to Lead Instructor and Registrar.
• Utilize various teaching methods (lectures, discussions, demonstrations) and manage classroom time for instruction and clean-up.
• Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments and reinforce learning concepts; may initiate study groups for examinations.
• Enforce classroom protocols, rules, and regulations; maintain discipline and apply effective classroom management techniques.
• Attend meetings and trainings as required by Lead Instructor, Program Chair, or Director of Education; participate in faculty and professional meetings, conferences, and workshops.
• File appropriate course syllabi for each course taught with the Program Chair.
• Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations per policy.
• Provide suggestions to the Program Chair regarding curriculum improvement.
• Complete annual goals setting and performance reviews with the Program Chair, approved by the Director of Education.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Cosmetology licensure through the applicable state board.
• Cosmetology Instructor’s License.
• At least three (3) years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist.
• Some level of teaching or training experience is preferred.

• Formulate and articulate policies, procedures, expectations, and practices.
• Basic mathematical skills such as percentages and fractions.
• Knowledge of educational measurement.
• Familiarity with operating a calculator, copier, fax machine, television, and VCR.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Sound instructional skills.
• Judgment to develop programs and curricula that meet industry needs.
• Ability to supervise, train staff, organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments.
• Ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work effectively with students, peers, and community.
• Professional integrity and discretion.
