Dental Assisting Instructor – Metairie, LA

Job Description

Blue Cliff College is seeking a Dental Assisting Instructor to teach dental assisting to students using a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, demonstrations, and audiovisual aids.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement performance-based objectives and course outlines following college and state/federal requirements.
  • Organize practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of dental assisting skills, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology; prepare instructional materials and outlines.
  • Instruct students on the use, maintenance, and safe operation of tools and equipment, and on codes or regulations related to the Dental Assisting Program.
  • Emphasize accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits to aid employment readiness.
  • Assign lessons, correct homework, and administer tests to evaluate technical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Maintain records of attendance and student progress; report to Lead Instructor and Registrar.
  • Present material using multiple methods (lectures, discussions, demonstrations); manage classroom time effectively for instruction and cleanup.
  • Assist students individually or in groups; respond to questions and facilitate study groups for exams as needed.
  • Enforce classroom protocols and maintain discipline; apply effective classroom management techniques.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings; participate in faculty and professional development activities.
  • File appropriate course syllabi with the Program Chair and participate in course evaluations and college assessments.
  • Suggest curriculum improvements aligned with college objectives; complete annual goal setting and performance reviews with the Program Chair and Director of Education.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be a Certified Dental Assistant by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
  • Associate degree and a diploma in Dental Assisting or an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene preferred.
  • Minimum of two to three years of related work experience.
  • Some teaching or training experience preferred.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of policies, procedures, expectations, and practices.
  • Basic mathematical skills (percentages, fractions, etc.).
  • Knowledge of educational measurement.
  • Familiarity with operating common office and classroom equipment.
Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong instructional skills and the ability to develop programs and curricula to meet industry standards.
Abilities
  • Ability to supervise and train staff; organize, prioritize, and schedule work.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, peers, and the community.
  • Demonstrate professional integrity and discretion.
Compensation

Pay range is $20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. This base pay does not include other components of the total rewards package. Overall compensation may be affected by geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience.
