Job Summary: Responsible for providing a positive learning environment and varied experiences which will help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development toward the overall goal of social competence and school readiness.

Essential Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty at a high level. Not all tasks are included. Other additional departmental duties may be assigned by Program Center Director, a manager, or Director of the department.

• Check and respond to emails daily.
• Clocking in/out as scheduled on electronic system.
• Meet all deadlines set in place.
• Ability to meet and maintain CLASS scores that coincide with performance rating categories for parish, program site, and state scores as well as meets Head Start standards.
• Makes and carries out written yearly and daily activity plans with Teacher II to provide developmentally appropriate educational experiences that utilize all program curriculum resources: i.e. Conscious Discipline, Frog Street Curriculum, Heggerty, Handwriting Without Tears, Eureka Math, Teaching Strategies Gold – in the areas of art, music, language, dramatic play, science, social/emotional, language, cognitive, and gross/fine motor. Other programs may be added at any time to meet state and federal requirements.
• Plans and utilizes all educational materials, supplies, and equipment to provide child development and growth regarding school readiness/ongoing observations and assessments (Frog Street/Teaching Strategies Gold) and shares this information with parents.
• Provides a safe, nurturing classroom environment for all children by implementing safe supervision and zoning.
• Completes weekly ongoing observations, necessary documentation (pictures, videos, or typed descriptions), finalizes three checkpoints per year, and completes professional development throughout the school year with Teaching Strategies Gold.
• Plans and shares weekly lessons with Teacher II and Teacher Assistant and turns lesson plans and small group planning forms in on time to supervisor weekly.
• Plans and creates weekly language and math small groups. Runs necessary Teaching Strategies Gold reports for child individualization.
• Plans, maintains, and changes room arrangement for maximum utilization according to lesson plan themes with the implementation of all curricular mandates; i.e. theme board, toys, books, photos, etc.
• Follows and implements program behavior management system on all children in the classroom.
• Completes developmental screenings on each child up to three times yearly.
• Completes progress monitoring on each child at least three times yearly with ongoing data to support summative assessment results.
• Conducts and plans Parent Teacher Conferences two times per year as well as initial and final Home Visits.
• Creates and maintains yearly child portfolio with an adequate amount of documentation; i.e. work samples, art work, hand writing, etc.
• Aids in the planning of parent meetings by staff members when necessary.
• Encourages parent participation throughout the program and obtains documentation for non-federal share derived from assigned area of responsibility.
• Works and communicates effectively with assigned Teacher II and Teacher Assistants.
• Supports Teacher II and Teacher Assistants while providing ongoing guidance and feedback within the classroom regarding planning, policies, and procedures.
• Establishes a positive working relationship with parents, staff, and volunteers.
• Displays leadership characteristics including but not limited to providing Teacher II and Teacher Assistant direction, parent communication, staff site camaraderie, etc.
