Company Description Community Academies of New Orleans (CANO) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2020 to expand and strengthen educational opportunities while honoring the distinct cultures and communities of its schools. In 2023, CANO converted Esperanza Academy into New Orleans’ first 50/50 Spanish and English Dual Language Program. As the only program in the city offering equal instruction in English and Spanish, CANO is committed to fostering bilingual and biliterate learners.

The vision for Esperanza Academy students is that by 8th grade they achieve academically in both languages and demonstrate social competency, advocacy, and leadership skills. Educators at CANO join a mission-driven team focused on equity, cultural responsiveness, and rigorous bilingual education.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Algebra Teacher role located in New Orleans, LA at Esperanza Academy within Community Academies of New Orleans. The Algebra Teacher will design and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned algebra instruction that supports students. Daily responsibilities include planning and implementing engaging lessons, facilitating whole-group and small-group instruction, assessing student learning, and providing timely feedback to support academic growth.

The teacher will differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and use data to guide instructional decisions. Additional responsibilities include communicating regularly with families and caregivers, participating in professional development, contributing to school-wide initiatives, and upholding CANO’s mission and values.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Education and Teaching, including experience delivering standards-aligned math instruction to middle-grade learners.
• Proficiency in Lesson Planning and Training, with the ability to design coherent units, daily objectives, and practice activities that build algebraic understanding.
• Excellent Communication skills, including clear instructional language, constructive feedback to students, and collaborative communication with families and colleagues.
• Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive teaching and supporting multilingual learners; experience in dual language or bilingual settings is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field required; relevant teaching certification or licensure in Louisiana (or eligibility to obtain) strongly preferred.
• Ability to use student data and educational technology to inform instruction and track progress.
• Strong classroom management skills, organization, and reliability, with the ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven school environment.
• Spanish language proficiency is highly beneficial and bilingual English/Spanish candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
