Performs tasks in classrooms to assist teaching staff of elementary or secondary schools, providing instructional support to students with disabilities in all educational settings, individually or in groups.

• Works with students with disabilities to provide instructional support.
• Implements the instructional plan developed with the classroom teacher, monitoring and adjusting it based on student needs.
• Applies strategies and accommodations from the student’s Individual Education Program and Emergency Health Plans, monitoring student safety.
• Maintains a log/schedule of support provided in inclusive, resource, and self‑contained classrooms.
• Assists in the routine supervision of study areas, cafeterias, halls, playgrounds, instructional field trips, and bus loading areas when applicable.
• Performs non‑complex health procedures and implements Individual Health Plans, attending required training as prescribed by board policy and state law; lifts and positions students as needed.
• Implements positive behavior supports and Behavior Plans; interacts positively with students and redirects inappropriate behavior.
• Assists students in using computer applications and related assistive technology.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
• Performs other related duties as directed, supporting students with disabilities and teachers/administrative staff.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent and meets one of the following: pass the teacher/paraprofessional assessment test with a score of 450 or higher; or hold an associate degree or higher (official transcripts required); or 48 hours of college with six hours of math and nine hours of English (official transcripts required).

Language Skills

• Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports, correspondence, and procedural documents.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and parents, and to present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group settings.

The employee regularly stands, speaks, walks, sits, reaches, stoops, kneels, crouches, lifts, and positions students. This job requires frequent physical activity to support students with disabilities.

The work area is typically loud and requires collaboration with instructional staff to implement effective instructional programs.

Employees must maintain high standards of professional conduct. Breach includes neglect of duty, dishonesty, unlawful activities, or conduct prejudicial to the school system. Confidentiality regarding the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act is mandatory.
