Position Summary

The Director of School Accountability will report to the Executive Director of Accountability and play a major role in quality oversight of school performance in New Orleans. S/he will be charged with managing the annual reviews and ongoing monitoring and oversight of NOLA Public School’s (NOLA-PS) Charter School Accountability Framework (CSAF) framework, statutory, and contractual provisions for a caseload of the district’s charter schools.

This will require consistent reviews of school performance data and the development of recommendations for next steps the district should take in its oversight of schools. In addition, s/he will manage day to day relationships with a caseload of charter schools requiring the ability to communicate effectively with charter school leaders, parents, and other stakeholder groups. Given that NOLA-PS is the premier entirely charter portfolio school district, a successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial, charter school-savvy expert with a deep commitment to the mission and guiding principles of NOLA-PS and will be able to thrive in a dynamic fast-paced environment, be a quick learner, and have a strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Acts as the lead for navigating compliance issues; conducts school visits as necessary;
  • Serves as a contact for a caseload of charter school operators for all matters related to charter operating agreements and performance standards;
  • Independently generates and proposes solutions to address specific needs which arise throughout the annual cycle of school oversight.
  • Communicates effectively with schools, school leaders, parents, team members and other stakeholders so that the Portfolio Innovation and Accountability office effectively oversees and monitors the quality of schools in NOLA-PS Portfolio.
  • Evaluates and can manipulate a variety of data on school performance pursuant to current operating agreements and/or NOLA-PS Charter School Accountability Framework requirements, including academic, financial, and organizational performance metrics;
  • Participates, under the leadership of the Chief Portfolio, Innovation, and Accountability Officer and the Executive Director of Accountability, in an annual comprehensive review of current OPSB’s expectations for schools.
  • Participates in a comprehensive review of NOLA-PS Policies to ensure alignment with the district’s vision and mission along with national best practices and state and federal requirements or laws.
  • Manages regular communication with departments across the organization (Legal, School Improvement and Support, and Exceptional Children’s Services, etc.) to oversee the extent to which schools are meeting expectations with regards to and all relevant federal, state, and district policies and law throughout the year for schools within and outside of the LEA;
  • Serves as a resident expert in one of the following areas, depending upon past-experience, and skill set:

  • High School Credit Accumulation
  • Charter School Law and Policy
  • School-Based Data and Analytics
  • Project Management
  • Financial Best Practices Charter Board Governance
  • Charter School Authorization
  • Works with key team members (in addition to the school leaders) at the school level to ensure compliance with performance expectations;
  • Acts as a liaison to field parent community concerns and student rights violations;
  • Support the charter authorization and renewal process;
  • Perform other related duties, as requested.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Public Policy, or similar field required;
  • Master’s Degree in related field strongly preferred.
