Location: New Orleans

The Senior Academic Success Coach serves as a leader within the Academic Success Coaching unit of Newcomb-Tulane College. This role directly supports the College’s objective of ensuring that our students are immersed in an environment of holistic support that cultivates a growth mindset in their academic journey by overseeing and enhancing academic success coaching services for undergraduate students.

A key functionality of the Senior Academic Success Coach role is assisting with the implementation of the Thrive Forward Initiative in partnership with the Office of Retention and Student Success to support first generation/low income students. This role would serve as a liaison between the unit of Academic Success Coaching and the Office of Retention and Student Success to ensure students identified within the Thrive program are receiving holistic support.

This initiative includes but is not limited to maintaining a caseload of students, primarily those identified as Thrive students, supporting and assisting with the implementation of academic workshops for the Thrive cohorts, and reporting progress of the initiative through institutional student support systems in conjunction with the Director of Academic Success Coaching.

This position may also participate in relevant committees, supports unit-wide initiatives, upholds university work standards, and performs other duties as assigned .

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
:

2 year previous experience in advising, teaching, coaching, counseling, social work, mentoring or related field.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Ability to implement personal, academic, and career development practices.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to pay great attention to detail.

Ability to assist students to succeed.

Ability to motivate and inspire students.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to process and easily reference policies and regulations.

Working knowledge of standard computer software such as office suite, email, etc. and ability to learn and utilize specific software necessary for academic advising practice is required.

Ability to be seated for most of the work day.

Ability to work weekends or after hours during special events.

Ability to work with gifted or high achieving students.

Ability to work with at-risk students.

Ability to continuously improve and learn about academic advising, coaching, and retention best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated program evaluation experience in Advising, Counseling, Social Work, Coaching, Mentoring, Teaching or related field preferred.
