Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment (Math)
Bricolage Academy is searching for Directors of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Bricolage is a New Orleans charter school that started in 2013 with a Kindergarten and will be growing one year, and one grade, at a time until we serve students in all grades, preK - 12th. We currently serve preK-8th grade.

About the RoleDirectors of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment at Bricolage Academy help to yield the highest possible student outcomes by investing in their own professional growth & development and the growth & development of the teachers they coach in order to ensure that classrooms are safe, inclusive, equitable, supportive, and joyful and that instruction is relevant, engaging, standards aligned, and culturally responsive.
Specifically, Directors of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment are responsible for:
- Co-lead (with the Principal) the selection and/or creation, implementation, and evaluation of Tier 1 curricular resources including supplementary materials & assessments
- Effectively communicate the rationale for curricular resource choices
- Ensure vertical & horizontal alignment of curricular resources with Common Core Standards &/or Next Generation Science Standards
- Ensure curricular resources can be & are modified to meet the needs of each individual student
- Plan & lead curriculum specific professional development for leaders, teachers, & parents/families - unit launches, lesson internalizations, parent nights, etc.
- Develop curriculum maps and scopes & sequences
- Script class overviews
- Actively seek ways to supplement the dominant narrative with culturally responsive pedagogy to ensure diversity, equity and inclusion and lead teachers through this process
- Facilitate the integration of technology, innovation, & design thinking into instruction
- Lead teachers through the process of setting big quarterly goals for teaching & learning
- Lead teachers through the process of breaking big goals into bite-sized action steps throughout the quarter
- Observe teachers weekly
- Use observation tools with fidelity - video, trackers, rubrics, etc.
- Plan teacher debriefs before they happen - select the highest leverage, measurable, bite-sized action step
- Meet with teachers weekly to debrief observations
- Invest teachers in action steps and hold them accountable for taking them
- Assess the needs of teachers and students, and plan and lead professional development to address those needs - instructional best practices, etc.
- Participate in bi-weekly co-observations and debriefs with the Principal
- Participate in monthly academic progress monitoring meetings with the Academic Leadership Team
- Participate in monthly instruction and culture walkthroughs and debriefs with the Academic Leadership Team
- Plan and lead assessment related professional development for leaders, teachers, staff, & parents/families - data driven instruction, data collection, analysis, and use, etc.
- Determine multiple measures to student progress - checkpoints, unit tests, interim assessments, student work samples, etc.
- Coordinate assessment logistics - assessment calendars, student work analysis protocols
- Analyze assessment data, identifying trends, prioritizing performance concerns, identifying root causes, identifying solutions and planning action steps to address concerns
- Plan and lead data analysis and meetings
- Actively participate in all relevant professional growth and development opportunities - Overcoming Racism, Standards Institute, Good to Great Institute, conferences, select readings, coaching debriefs, co-observations and debriefs, instruction and culture walkthroughs, academic progress monitoring meetings, etc.
- Form and maintain authentic relationships with students
- Attend student activities and events (sports, performances, etc.) whenever possible
- Ensure all classroom systems, structures, and routines prioritize safety, inclusivity, equity, and support
- Coach teachers toward setting and maintaining high expectations
- Model leadership and professionalism - effective communication, honor deadlines, follow-through, etc.
- Set and maintain high expectations for students
- Hold students accountable for meeting expectations and hold teachers accountable for doing the same
- Form and maintain authentic relationships with staff members
- Attend staff activities and events whenever possible
- Ensure all classroom systems, structures, and routines prioritize safety, inclusivity, equity, and support
