The Children & Youth Ministry Director oversees and leads the spiritual formation and discipleship of children (birth-5th grade) and youth (6th-12th grade). This role fosters faith development through engaging programs, relational ministry, volunteer coordination, and family support, helping each child and young person connect with Jesus and the church community. The ideal candidate will be patient, kind, and relatable, and will be able to creatively teach faith topics in a way that is fun and relevant foreach age group of children and youth.
Key Responsibilities:
Every Sunday:
Coordinate with Children's Ministry Team to plan and lead a brief children's moment in worship each week, preferably coordinated with the pastor's sermon or series. Most Sundays (except First Sundays):
Work with Children's Ministry Team to plan and teach children's church. First Sundays of the Month:
Prepare self-guided activities for children to complete in their seats during worship on First Sundays when there is no children's church. Wednesdays (during the School Year):
Help plan and launch a new Wednesday night program for children & youth during adult Bible Study. Monthly (during the School Year):
Plan and lead an additional activity with a focus on fellowship and/or service opportunities, or attend a church-wide event if scheduled during that month (i.e. Fall Fest, etc.) Quarterly:
Attend church council meetings (held on Sundays after worship) and give report on children and youth ministries. Annually:
Coordinate and assist with leading Vacation Bible School (usually in June, but flexible). Annually:
Attend Weekend of the Cross, a mission trip for youth (held on a Wednesday-Saturday at the end of July, requires overnight stay), and participate in annual fundraiser that covers Weekend of the Cross' registration fees, recruit, train, support, and schedule volunteers. Partner with families to encourage faith ld relationships with students and families, Manage ministry budget and resources. Ensure a welcoming environment with appropriate safety policies.
Attend trainings and educational opportunities for children and youth ministry, when possible,
Qualifications:
Professes Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and demonstrates a lifestyle that reflects Christian principles. Commits to teaching the mission, values, and theology of Faith Crossing and the United Methodist Church. Possesses strong organizational, communication, and team-leadership skill. Has a heart for children and youth, and experience working with them in a professional or volunteer capacity. Is able to build meaningful relationships with students and families.
A background in education, ministry, or related field is desirable, but not required
