Location: Iowa
Van Buren County Hospital is seeking a compassionate and motivated Parent Educator to join our Parents as Teachers (PAT) program. This position is being recruited as a full-time opportunity; however, we recognize that highly qualified candidates may be seeking greater flexibility. Part-time employment may be considered for the right candidate.
As a Parent Educator, you ll build lasting relationships with families through home visits, developmental screenings, parent education, and connections to community resources. Every interaction helps strengthen families and lays the foundation for lifelong learning and success.
Primary Responsibilities- Conduct scheduled home visits using the nationally recognized Parents as Teachers curriculum
- Educate and empower parents to support their child s learning, development, and well-being
- Complete developmental, health, hearing, and vision screenings as required by the program
- Connect families with community resources and supportive services
- Plan and facilitate parent group meetings and educational activities
- Recruit eligible families into the Parents as Teachers program
- Maintain accurate documentation and complete required reports within established time frames
- Collaborate with community partners, healthcare providers, schools, and other agencies to support participating families
Required
- Bachelor s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Social Work, Human Services, Nursing, Child Development, Family Studies, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently while managing a flexible schedule
- Valid driver s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout Van Buren County
Preferred
- Experience working with young children and families
- Knowledge of child development and early childhood education
- CPR/First Aid and Mandatory Reporter certification, or ability to obtain after hire
