Job SummaryJob Description
The Counselor Education Program within the LSU New Orleans School of Education seeks applicants for a non-tenure track full-time Assistant Professor of Professional Practice, which is equivalent to a clinical faculty position. The Assistant Professor of Professional Practice will also serve as the Clinical Practicum & Internship Coordinator for the CACREP accredited graduate programs in counseling: M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, M.Ed.
in School Counseling, and Ph.D. in Counselor Education. The successful candidate will have established teaching, clinical, and supervision philosophies, a preference for collaborative work, a strong commitment to mentoring counseling students, and established clinical experience.
This position is responsible for 12 academic units per semester (4/4 – with the expectation of a release for administrative responsibilities associated with the Clinical Practicum & Internship Coordinator position)
Example of Duties:
Serving as the Clinical Practicum & Internship coordinator for the program; responsible for the coordination of practicum and internship experiences in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling masters programs and the doctoral program in Counselor Education
Responding to inquiries regarding practicum and internship
Supervising doctoral supervisors as they supervise master’s students
On-going connection with and monitoring of field experience sites for practicum and internship students.
Developing and fostering new sites for practicum and internship students
Advising students through the clinical phase of the program
Onboarding students, sites, liaisons, and University Supervisors
Coordinating Supervision Assist, the program’s electronic field experience and supervision management software
Overseeing completion of field experience paperwork and documentation and confirming student liability insurance coverage
Teaching graduate courses within the Counselor Education Program
Student advising

Required Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP accredited institution of higher education to meet CACREP core faculty standards (ABD may be considered for candidates in final stages of their dissertation)
Eligibility for Louisiana state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or certification as a School Counselor
Desired Qualifications
Preparation and experience in clinical supervision
Specialized counseling experience in clinical mental health and/or school counseling
Experience in supervising counselors in training
Experience in working with practicum and internship students and/or sites
Evidence of teaching excellence at the University level
Demonstrable expertise in teaching students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse academic and developmental needs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Commitment to the preparation of counselors
Commitment to effective, ethical, and multicultural competent graduate teaching and supervision
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and collegiality.
