26-27 ECTC Service Leader
The Early Childhood Teacher Corps was developed to improve school readiness outcomes for young children from economically disadvantaged households by increasing accessibility to high quality teacher-child interactions and development of language, literacy, and math skills.
The Early Childhood Teacher Corps (ECTC) Service Leader combines direct service in early childhood settings with peer leadership and professional development. The Service Leader travels to ECTC service sites throughout the Greater New Orleans and Greater Baton Rouge regions to model developmentally appropriate practices, support language, literacy, math, and other child-development activities, and help fellow Ameri Corps Volunteers connect CDA, CLASS, TS GOLD, and ECTC training to their classroom practice.
Through classroom-based peer support, resource sharing, strengths-based reflective conversations, and peer-learning activities, the Service Leader helps Volunteers build confidence and strengthen their early childhood practice while also participating in direct service. The Service Leader will receive ongoing guidance, professional development, and opportunities to strengthen their own leadership and skills throughout the service term. This position is designed as a professional-development pathway for an individual interested in advancing toward future roles in early childhood coaching, mentoring, training, or instructional support.
Duties
The Service Leader participates in direct service within early childhood classrooms while supporting fellow ECTC Volunteers across the Greater New Orleans and Greater Baton Rouge regions. Activities include modeling developmentally appropriate practices and positive teacher-child interactions; supporting language, literacy, math, and child development; modeling strategies aligned with TS GOLD, CLASS, and CDA competencies; providing classroom-based peer support; and sharing resources and effective practices.
The Service Leader will receive guided development in early childhood coaching, reflective practice, strengths-based feedback, adult learning, classroom observation, CDA competencies, peer facilitation, and professional communication. With guidance from ECTC staff and training providers, the Service Leader will practice coaching skills and build a professional portfolio supporting future coaching, training, and instructional-support opportunities.
