Founded in 2014, Jefferson RISE is a tuition-free public charter school serving nearly 800 students in grades 6-12 in Harvey, Louisiana. As a charter school, Jefferson RISE sets its own academic calendar and daily schedule based on the needs of its students. Teachers generally work from mid-July (beginning with professional development before students arrive) through late May.

Workdays are generally 7:10 AM - 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday. Mondays extend to 4:30 PM and include mandatory Professional Development time. Anticipated school hours and days vary annually based on changes to the school calendar.

Position Summary

At Jefferson RISE, instruction doesn’t pause when a teacher is absent. The Permanent Substitute plays a critical role in ensuring continuity of learning by delivering strong, consistent instruction across classrooms. This role goes beyond coverage—it requires a confident instructional presence, effective classroom management, and a commitment to maintaining a positive, productive learning environment.

This position is well-suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced setting, adapts quickly, and approaches each day as an opportunity to support student growth and uphold high expectations.

• Deliver clear, engaging instruction aligned to teacher lesson plans and school expectations
• Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful classroom through strong management practices (e.g., active monitoring, circulation, positive narration)
• Build quick, positive relationships with students across grade levels and subject areas
• Provide in-the-moment feedback to support student learning and behavior
• Ensure continuity of learning by keeping students engaged and on task throughout the class period

• Transition seamlessly across classrooms, subjects, and routines with minimal preparation time
• Navigate unexpected challenges with professionalism and a solutions-oriented mindset
• Uphold consistent expectations and procedures across all assignments

• Take accurate attendance and ensure completion and submission of student work
