Duties and Responsibilities:

The Dean is responsible for the following academic programs and services:
Care and Development of Young Children, Criminal Justice, General Studies, Teaching Grades, Transfer degrees, American Sign Language, Visual Communications, Anthropology, Theater, Fine Arts, Geography, History, Humanities, Communication Studies, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, English, English as a Second Language, College and Career Success Skills, French, Reading, Spanish, Fine Art Gallery, Writing Center, Hibernia Enrichment Center, and Images Magazine.

  • 60% Oversees the formulation of instructional objectives college-wide and guides all curricular revisions within the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education.
  • Develops and implements college-wide long-range programs, plans, goals, and policies.
  • Ensures the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education plans align with and support the College's mission, vision, strategic initiatives and the goals of the Academic and Student Affairs unit.
  • Collaborates with department chairs on the City Park, West Bank, Sidney Collier, Jefferson, and River City campus/sites in developing and coordinating programs of study, curricula offerings, and institutional policies and objectives.
  • Develops a faculty participation process for curriculum review, and informs all faculty of proposed curriculum revisions prior to meetings of the Curriculum Committee.
  • Recommends the acquisition of appropriate learning resources in the areas of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education.
  • Coordinates with colleagues on the preparation and periodic revision of course syllabi.
  • Works with the appropriate department chairs to develop a schedule of course offerings and coordinate teaching assignments across the campuses/sites.
  • Monitors enrollments and faculty loads; monitors, analyzes and adjusts courses in response to student needs.
  • Conducts regular School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education meetings to apprise the faculty of institutional plans, activities, and expectations.
  • Encourages and supports college-wide implementation of teaching activities that promote learning-centered education within the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education.
  • Supervises School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education courses during the day, evening, weekend, and online.
  • Organizes the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education registration and pre-registration schedules on all sites.
  • Maintains current knowledge of program rules and regulations and communicates the changes to all School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education faculty and staff.
  • Secures and maintains appropriate certification and accreditation status for School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education programs.
  • Organizes and chairs School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education meetings, leads workshops, facilitates group discussions, and involves the faculty and staff in idea generation, goal setting and decision making on a college-wide basis.
  • Meets schedules and timelines.
  • Maintains essential School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education records, including student records at all campuses/sites.
  • Initiates budget requests and coordinates execution of approved budget in the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education.
  • Manages facilities and equipment for the School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education, Including maintenance and control of inventory at all campuses and sites.
  • Works closely with appropriate instructional administrators, faculty, staff, and students to ensure proper implementation of lab safety.
  • Develops reports that summarize the progress, problems, and prospects on a college-wide basis.
  • Coordinates efforts to seek funds from external funding sources to maintain, support, and improve college wide School of Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, and Education programs.
  • 15% Encourages and facilitates collaboration between members and instructors in area high schools as well as in area colleges and universities.
