Location: Breard

The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) invites applications for a full-time, nine-month faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor in Disaster Management. The successful candidate will also serve as Program Coordinator for ULM’s new Bachelor of Science in Disaster Management, launched in Fall 2026 within the School of Construction Management. Rank and appointment type will be commensurate with the candidate’s education, experience, scholarly record, and ULM criteria.

The program prepares students to help communities and organizations anticipate risk, sustain readiness, respond effectively, and recover from natural, technological, and human-caused disasters. ULM seeks a collaborative teacher-scholar or scholar-practitioner with broad competence in disaster and emergency management who can teach across the curriculum in both face-to-face and online formats and help build a distinctive, practice-connected program.

  • Teach undergraduate courses in disaster management, emergency management, and related areas during the fall and spring semesters in face-to-face and online formats.
  • Coordinate the Disaster Management program in collaboration with the School Director, including course scheduling, curriculum sequencing, adjunct coordination, and routine program operations.
  • Lead curriculum mapping, student-learning assessment, continuous improvement, program review, and documentation needed for institutional and specialized-accreditation readiness, including monitoring emerging ACCE criteria relevant to Disaster Management.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students; maintain accurate records of student progress; and support timely progression and graduation.
  • Participate actively in student recruitment, enrollment growth, retention initiatives, internships, career development, and alumni engagement.
  • Build and sustain relationships with local, parish, state, federal, nonprofit, healthcare, private-sector, and professional emergency-management partners; support an active external advisory group.
  • For tenure-track appointments, pursue a sustained program of scholarly research, publication, and externally engaged work appropriate to rank and faculty qualification expectations.
  • Contribute to the missions of the program, School, College, and University through service, professional engagement, and regular participation in on-campus activities and events.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Broad academic or professional competence in disaster management, emergency management, homeland security, public safety, public administration, disaster science, resilience, hazard mitigation, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of effective college-level teaching—or strong potential for effective teaching—across both online and face-to-face formats.
  • Ability to teach and mentor students from varied educational, professional, and personal backgrounds and to contribute to ULM’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Ability to meet ULM and College faculty qualification requirements appropriate to the rank, appointment type, and assigned courses.
Rank-specific qualifications

Instructor. A master’s degree in disaster management, emergency management, homeland security, public safety, public administration, disaster science, resilience, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, plus substantial relevant professional experience.
