Description Job Summary/Objective

The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safety and reliability of industrial processes, primarily by identifying and mitigating risks associated with those processes. They work to prevent accidents, protect workers and the environment, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. This involves a range of activities from conducting hazard analyses to developing and implementing process safety procedures and protocols

Requirements Essential Functions
  • Identify potential hazards in industrial processes through various methods like Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), evaluating the associated risks and potential consequences.
  • Design, develop, and implement safety systems, procedures, and protocols to prevent accidents and mitigate risks. This may involve creating inherently safer solutions, simplifying processes, substituting hazardous materials, or adding layers of protection.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards, such as PSM (Process Safety Management) and RMP (Risk Management Plan).
  • Provide training to plant personnel on safety procedures and protocols and communicate safety information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions to avoid future occurrences.
  • Track and report on safety performance metrics, analyze data from PSM programs, and participate in initiatives to improve process safety.
Required

Skills and Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field is typically required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience and knowledge of process safety management principles, hazard analysis techniques, and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to analyze complex processes, identify potential hazards, and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including plant personnel, engineers, and management.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, particularly in process safety, is required.
  • The ability to read P&IDs.
  • Thorough understanding of NFPA, NEC, ANSI, ASME, ICC, API, and OSHA's PSM, etc.
