What You'll Be Doing
The Machinery Engineering position will work collaboratively across multiple levels of the organization, and with multi-discipline teams, to improve the facility’s rotating equipment reliability. This includes supporting daily operation, maintenance, turnarounds, and projects for rotating equipment and their associated systems.
Responsibilities- Support all phases of machinery engineering from concept development to failure analysis.
- Prepare, review, and approve machinery or component purchase specifications and related standards, policies, and instructions.
- Provide technical review and approval of vendor calculations, drawings, and technical reports.
- Participate in resolution of operational and reliability issues during start-up and normal plant operation.
- Answer technical inquiries, make recommendations, improve design tools, and develop design procedures.
- Spearhead resolution of quality issues during equipment manufacturing, and approve factory acceptance test results.
- Ensure work practices, applications, data, and tools are effective and efficient, covering condition monitoring, performance monitoring, routine and turnaround scope development, and engineering work order development.
- Lead machinery initiatives and studies to improve plant safety and reliability.
- Support inputs to economic analysis for proposed upgrades or improvements to rotating equipment assets.
- Participate in troubleshooting complex machinery problems, develop alternatives, and collaborate with the condition monitoring team to propose and implement long-term reliability solutions.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (Operations, Technical, Routine Maintenance, Turnaround, Projects, Construction Services Group, etc.) to improve asset reliability.
- Ensure lessons learned are shared and incorporated into applicable systems for sustainability.
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of design standards and codes.
- Knowledge, application, and specification of piping materials.
- Development of piping material and procurement specifications.
- Knowledge of good design practices for sizing all piping systems, including compressible fluid piping, and flexibility and stress analysis of moderately complex systems.
- Specification of piping specialty items, manual valve sizing, use, and application.
- Knowledge of piping supports, restraints, safety valves, steam traps, and liquid drainers.
- Estimating piping-related construction quantities from conceptual documents.
- Knowledge of other disciplines’ deliverables to coordinate design efforts.
- Knowledge of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
- Knowledge of discipline-specific methods, practices, and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent communication, verbal and written, and presentation skills.
- Virtual team skills and ability to develop cross-divisional relationships.
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
