Position LocationThis position will be located at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Job OverviewNSS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering Services Department at NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, Louisiana. The role designs and analyzes new or modified site or manufacturing and production facility systems.
Responsibilities- Design mechanical systems for construction of new or modified facilities, site utilities, process piping, and HVAC systems.
- Develop process, instrumentation, and HVAC related drawings.
- Monitor and report weekly on current design projects, schedule, and cost.
- Prepare plans and specifications for construction packages.
- Participate in the entire design cycle including conceptual design, analysis, integration, and construction support.
- Design and route HVAC or fluid subsystems and fluid component groups with discrepancy resolution.
- Perform dimensional, thermal, integration analyses to verify design feasibility.
- Plan, schedule, and estimate project cost.
- Develop heat load and flow models for facility systems (cryogenic and gas systems).
- Review vendor submittals, RFIs, and change orders through construction.
- Perform trade studies and support site-wide improvements.
- Assist other departments with engineering support.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- MS degree in mechanical engineering is a plus.
- Working knowledge of HVAC fluid components such as valves, regulators, and fittings.
- Active professional engineer (PE) licensure in LA is a plus.
- Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control for tubes/piping, ductwork, and machined components.
- Experience of 3–10+ years in mechanical design, applying industry standards (ASME B31.3, ASME BPVC, ASHRAE 90.1, IBC).
- U.S. citizenship and required NASA badge qualifications.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with cryogenic and process piping and large-scale HVAC systems for office and production areas.
- Prior knowledge of NASA site and government installations.
- Experience with Flowmaster, Math Cad, Pipe Flo, and CAD.
