Job SummaryThis position is in the Transmission Design Basis Department, providing technical leadership, standards development, and engineering guidance specifically for Transmission Line assets. The Transmission Line Engineer works with Design Engineering, Asset Management, Construction, Procurement, vendors, and field personnel to establish and maintain line‑related standards, design basis documents, templates, and construction guidance supporting safe, reliable, and cost‑effective transmission line infrastructure.
ResponsibilitiesPerform review and analysis of transmission line standards issues identified by engineering teams, construction, and field operations.
Recommend solutions and lead cross‑functional teams to reach consensus on updates to line design standards, structure libraries, plan & profile documentation, and material specifications.
Develop subject‑matter expertise on transmission line standard drawings, loading criteria, PLS‑CADD structure libraries, conductor/OPGW specifications, and application philosophies.
Create and revise standard documents, catalog IDs, stock codes, and standard drawings specifically for transmission line assets.
Review vendor drawings and technical specifications for structures, foundations, conductor systems, hardware, and other line components.
Maintain the Transmission Design Basis SharePoint site and ensure current versions of line standards, guidance documents, and engineering directives are available.
Apply engineering principles, industry standards (ASCE, NESC, IEEE), and internal design practices to develop high‑quality, cost‑effective line design guidance.
Support engineering design, construction, and maintenance activities by providing technical interpretation of design basis documents and standards.
Support compliance activities related to industry standards and reliability organizations (NERC, SERC) where line assets are involved.
Participate in and support technical consortia, research groups, and universities on topics relevant to transmission line engineering and standards development.
Conduct change‑management sessions for stakeholders on updates to line standards or lessons learned from design and construction activities.
Assist with storm/emergency restoration by providing engineering support as necessary.
Additional responsibilities:
Availability for additional hours, alternate locations, and/or additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company.
Minimum educational requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from a four‑year accredited institution.
Engineering Technology degrees with Professional Engineer status may be considered.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a four‑year accredited institution.
Engineering experience:
Engineer II – at least 2 years, Engineer III – at least 4 years, Senior Engineer – at least 6 years. Preferred at least 3 years of transmission line design, asset management, construction, or other related technical engineering experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Apply engineering and design principles; understand construction methods, project management techniques, and applications of engineering design; mastery of relevant processes and policies; strong design skills; sound judgment; interpersonal skills; strong written and oral communication; proficiency with PC tools, with PLSCADD experience highly preferred; basic theory of electricity; strong understanding of transmission line engineering principles (loading, clearances, structure analysis, conductor behavior);
