Position: Aircraft (Rotary Wing) Technical Inspector
Location: North Fort Polk

Responsibilities

  • Ensure assigned aircraft are maintained within required specifications and are airworthy before operation.
  • Inspect repairs and modifications of aircraft structures, structural components and engines, from complex to extreme difficulty.
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise aircraft technical inspections.
  • Develop and implement quality control and ground safety programs to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Evaluate personnel, including verification of skills, training and experience.
  • Perform audits and inspections of work centers and ongoing maintenance actions, procedures, equipment and facilities.
  • Examine parts and components for conformance to design specifications to determine serviceability, assign disposition, and affix appropriate form/tag.
  • Monitor timeliness and applicability of maintenance technical data and technical library.
  • Review maintenance source documents, inspection records, note recurring discrepancies or trends and initiate appropriate action.
  • Manage material deficiency and technical order improvement programs.
  • Review engineering investigation requests.
  • Initiate and review quality deficiency reports, technical deficiency reports and hazardous material reports.
  • Conduct safety inspections, training, and drills.
  • Inspect and verify proper completion and documentation of safety and flight discrepancies.
  • Brief and debrief pilots and crew members assigned to functional check flights.
  • Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
  • Ensure compliance with aircraft configuration control, Army oil analysis program, and test measuring diagnostic equipment calibration.
  • Provide lower‑level technicians guidance in aircraft repair and technical inspection techniques and procedures.
  • Prepare evaluations, special reports, and records pertaining to aircraft maintenance repair and related activities.
  • Make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Perform other qualified duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of recent applicable aircraft maintenance experience.
  • One (1) year experience performing Technical Inspections on rotary wing aircraft.
  • A valid and up‑to‑date (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
  • A Valid FAA Inspection Authorization (IA); if no IA, minimum five (5) years as an inspector on helicopters.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (US citizenship required).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems or other technology applicable to fabrication, repair, operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Efficient in record keeping and preparation of reports; capable of reviewing others’ work and determining accuracy and conformity to standards.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Unit Level Logistics System
    - Aviation Enhanced (ULLS-AE).
  • Thorough comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair, and the ability to determine functionality of non‑complex electrical systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
  • Ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
  • Walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
  • Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands; crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects; use finger dexterity; bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Lift heavy objects that may exceed 50 pounds; lift/push/pull minimum 50 pounds.
  • Type using a standard keyboard to communicate via email and software applications.
  • Handle dirty parts and lubricants; wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform respirator physical and fit test.
  • Operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
