Job Requirements
As a Field Service Engineer for Merchant, you will be responsible for supporting automation and propulsion control systems delivered by Kongsberg Maritime.
Key Accountabilities:
- Service onboard vessels with KM Systems
- Troubleshooting via Phone and Email support lines
- Execute service assignments as requested by the customer
- Complete service reports, timesheets, and expense reports accurately and timely following service assignments per Work Order
- Produce and update As-Built Documentation
- Develop your qualifications through internal/external training courses
- Support sales and marketing with technical information
- Interface with customer and internal engineering groups
- Willingness to travel up to 50-70%
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide preventative and corrective maintenance to Kongsberg control systems
- Read and interpret drawings and control system architecture
- Perform PC troubleshooting, networking, and module modifications
- Use multimeters and software tools for troubleshooting communication or loop errors
- Understand Power Management Systems, generators, and governor control functionalities
- Work with AC/DC electrical motors
- Modify control logic as needed
- Familiar with communication protocols (CAN, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Complete and submit timesheets and expenses promptly
- Own assigned cases and service trips
- Suggest product improvements and report needs to Service Manager or product department
- Proactively suggest upgrades and new products during onboard visits
- Implement actions to prevent errors in delivery and aftersales
- Support Aftermarket Sales with quotations
Work Experience
Basic Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electromechanical, or Computer Engineering or equivalent training
- Knowledge of control system concepts such as PID controllers, filters, communication protocols
- Ability to produce and interpret technical documentation
- Troubleshooting skills with low voltage electrical components and multimeters
- Experience with PLC/SCADA systems is highly desired
- Customer service orientation
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good communication skills and fluency in English
