Job Summary
Field Engineer II – Structured Cabling will install and operate low‑voltage/structured cabling systems and equipment.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems, test system components, and verify field connections, labels, installation and quality.
- Interpret advanced system drawings, specifications and technical manuals; create shop drawings and submittals for new project kick‑off.
- Manage technical work in the field with minimal supervision.
- Work both in‑house and on‑site as required.
- Own project installation, support field staff and project manager, and provide advanced support for installation staff.
- Maintain and complete project punch‑lists for close‑outs.
- Oversee technical aspects of projects and quality‑check all equipment and functionality; create punch lists.
- Assist sales staff with product and system demonstrations.
- Conduct detailed field walks for prospect or change‑order opportunities and provide written scope narratives, system outlines, and constructability notes for Estimating.
- Identify and document existing conditions, infrastructure constraints, and access limitations during site assessments to inform bids and value‑engineering options.
- Interface with subcontractors during pre‑construction activities; coordinate site walks, review scope alignment, and obtain written proposals or bids.
- Serve as a technical liaison between field and Pre‑Construction/Estimating to bridge design intent, sequencing, and feasibility gaps.
- Assist Quality and Training by creating or delivering guidance for leads and superintendents on project setup, documentation, and workflow planning.
- Support creation of best‑practice and job‑readiness materials for new leaders.
Education & Experience
:
At least a high school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum 4–6 years of commercial low‑voltage/structured cabling experience.
Licenses & Certifications
:
None required.
Skills & Abilities
:
Self‑motivated, positive, professional; proven problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills. Able to read/write/communicate orally and present. Diagnose and fix equipment. Interpret blueprints, specifications, and quality requirements. Good customer‑service skills. Travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
Technical Proficiencies
:
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project). Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
Other Requirements
:
Meet company minimum driving standards; may need to travel. Must define project scope and manage tasks to completion.
Salary
: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour.
