Overview
Launch your engineering career with Sarasota County through the Professional Engineering Development Program (PEDP). This four‑year rotational program offers hands‑on experience, mentorship, and a clear path to a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida.
Responsibilities- Perform practical entry‑level engineering projects and tasks aligned with the PEDP.
- Conduct detailed engineering studies, review plans, and complete design tasks.
- Support construction projects with site visits and observations.
- Write and edit technical reports and studies.
- Prepare plans and specifications for related activities.
- Coordinate with management, engineers, and technical staff to meet project needs.
- Meet with co‑workers, municipal officials, and contractors to review project requirements and coordinate field conditions.
- Follow approval processes with various agencies.
- Research issues related to assigned duties.
- Produce presentation and design drawings.
- Participate in Advisory Committees and Development Review Committee (DRC) meetings.
- Review proposals and present results at a Professional Services Review Committee meeting.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field.
- Engineer Intern (EI) certificate from the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
- Ability to obtain the EI certificate within the first 18 months of employment.
- Valid Florida driver’s license at the time of hire.
- Prior related engineering work experience, engineering internship, or advanced degree.
- Program length: 4 years. Participants must complete the program within 74 months or may be terminated unless moved to another County position.
- Base salary: $58,947.20 annually.
- Merit schedule: 1st–2nd years: 3% increase every six months based on performance; 3rd–4th years: annual merit increase based on performance; additional increases tied to promotion milestones at the end of the 2nd and 4th year.
