Research And Development In Lightweight Construction

The Mercedes-Benz Group AG is one of the most successful automotive companies in the world. With the Mercedes-Benz AG, the vehicle manufacturer is one of the largest providers of premium and luxury cars and vans.

With increasing requirements for the environmental compatibility of vehicles, the importance of lightweight construction in car development is steadily increasing. You will work in the lightweight construction and weight NPP and series team, which coordinates all development activities for the vehicles of the A, B, C, E, and S classes and electric vehicles from the concept sheet to the lifecycle end.

In weight management, you have contact with every department and thus gain a comprehensive insight into various disciplines such as raw body, body, interior, design, chassis, electrical and electronic systems, and powertrain. You will be working in a group of 3 to 4 interns.

The team is concerned with the creation and derivation of weight targets for vehicles and electric vehicles for the coming years up to 2035 as well as with the weight controlling of current prototypes. In this process, we continuously question the weight of components and systems in order to identify potentials and achieve the weight targets. Lightweight construction is still a component of our work, but it takes up less capacity in the currently supported vehicles and is not the primary focus.

Nevertheless, you can gain valuable insights into specific lightweight construction strategies and measures through an internship in a neighboring team.

These exciting tasks await you:

• Evaluation and processing of results from vehicle weighing
• Analysis and evaluation of weight-relevant measures
• Participation in the preparation and conduct of weight clauses as well as competitive analysis
• As part of internships, you will also gain insights into our production, the museum, a real crash, wind tunnel, climate channel, and vehicle testing on the test track.

The internship can start from mid-August 2026.

• Degree in vehicle engineering, production engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a comparable course of study
• Secure German and English language skills in speech and writing
• Secure handling of MS-Office
• Engagement and team capability
• Analytical thinking and strategic working method
• Diligence and confident appearance
• Enthusiasm for automotive construction is an advantage
• Enthusiasm for AI and programming
