JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is located in Plymouth, MN, in the EP division of Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business.

As a CAD Designer I, you will support engineers and technicians by creating and revising CAD models and detailed drawings for medical devices, fixtures, and tooling.

• Generate 3D CAD models of new and existing design concepts using Solid Works.
• Generate detailed drawings of new and existing design concepts.
• Adhere to and apply current industry drafting standards to detailed drawings.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to optimize new and existing designs.
• Maintain CAD files and corresponding documents in all existing data management systems.
• Process engineering change requests, updating all applicable documents to current Abbott standards.
• Use existing processes and procedures to solve routine problems.
• Ensure requirements of the PDP process are followed, as necessary.
• Ensure that quality management system requirements are being met.
• Ensure a safe work environment consistent with OSHA requirements and Abbott policies.
• Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

• Certificate, Diploma, or Associates Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting.
• 0-3 years of work experience in a Drafter/Designer role.
• Experience using Solid Works 2023 or later versions.
• Exposure to a variety of machining/manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining, laser cutting, extrusions, braiding).
• Experience using engineering measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
• Experience using Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
• Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast‑paced changing environment.
• Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
• Multi‑task, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
• Strong organizational, planning, and follow‑up skills.
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

• Certified Solid Works Associate (CSWA) or Professional (CSWP) certification.
• Experience using Windchill PDMLink 12.0/13.0 with Workgroup Manager or equivalent PLM/PDM system.
• Willingness to learn Creo and AutoCAD mechanical through OTJ or professional training courses.

$19.35 – $38.75/hour (varies by location)
